Nukey Shay #3 Posted March 11, 2002 Files with the extension .asx are considered to be streaming media files that automatically open with media player. To override this, hold down shift and right-click the file...then choose "OPEN WITH...". Scroll down the list of programs and pick notepad. It's NOT advisable to check the box marked "Always use this program", since many media files are still made in .asx format.
Nukey Shay #4 Posted March 11, 2002 Just a sidenote... Realplayer files are often just small text files that contain the actual URL adress. Buy using the above method, you can copy and paste the real adress into a download manager like DAP or Streambox VCR.
Heaven/TQA #5 Posted March 11, 2002 the .asx file xtension drives me mad as well... but asx means "ASsembler format for Xasm" so don't open them with double click. open them with an text editor. I use Notepad or Wordpad of Windows... if you open a MS DOS Box (or Dos Box) in windows then browse to the desired directory (you can change dirs with the command "CD drive:dirname") and type "notepad abbuc68.asx" hope this helps... hve
