Does having Ebay auctions for 3 days vs 7 days hurt your auction cells?

Recommended Posts

Just sold 31 Xbox games on Ebay 3 day auction and the price that I got was what just 8 of those games are worth so they basically paid for 8 and got games free 23 smh. Would i have gotten more if I had made it 7 days? I figured if you had a unreleased MJ demo you'd have for 7 days, or a very rare book, as that might extend the selling price not for some damn original Xbox games...

You really have  to keep in mind just how overinflated prices are these days.  Just looking at craigslist it's filled with people selling nearly everything they own at near MSRP.  And half it are janky old systems probably filled with blatella, games no one wants, etc.  You basically did probably get what the true market value of your stuff is.

I get that but unfortunately I looked up what the 8 most expensive games are and they are selling for(total) about what they won all 31 games for...

Selling lots is a good way to get nothing for your games. Many of my best purchases have come from buying lots where I only paid what the one rare game in the lot was worth. If you want the greatest return on sales you have to list separately.

Also, Xbox games are still largely cheap and plentiful.

The days of people actually bidding on eBay are long gone. If you're running an auction, just expect nobody to bid on it until it has less than 3-4 hours left to go.

If you're selling a common item that has multiple instances of it already up, time really doesn't matter. A 7 day auction is really only good for exposure when listing more rare items.

More important would be when the auction ends. I've found evenings and weekends have more exposure than 2am on a Tuesday.

I warned you about the timer in the other thread.

You need time for people to see it, and feel pressured into buying it. They see the bid price is a good deal then they say yeah ok, they bid, then the next guy buds, and you soon get your asking price or higher because the more bids the better the value preception is.

3 days can sometimes work, but that's more of a gamble unless you're putting up well known expensive items sought after.

I will ashamedly admit most of my collection is now probably sourced from ebay now. All the local independent shops died long before Covid, even high Street CEX either has poor volume, or silly prices (though its pricing does seem to be based on ebay, and conversely, nobody wants to pay more than the price they can pay in a high Street shop).

However, I don't live on ebay. If I have the money to waste I try to check once, twice a week for things I might be interested in that month. On a 3 day auction that would have started and ended before I knew it existed. Most peoples work revolves around a traditional 7 day working week, and most people have saturday and Sunday off. Those are probably the ideal days for an auction to end so we can watch the timer go down when we are at home socialising with family rather than important paid work where we might be fired.

I also benefit largely from the fact that as long as I am good, I can pay for a game at any time of the month, where as others might be waiting for payday. Most companies pay days are either in the middle or the end of the month. I love buying things at the odd weeks when other people have no money to bid.

For maximised profits think about when buyers might have time to a) look for auctions and b) have the money to pay for auctions. Auctions ending mid week on the 2nd or 4th week of the month might not attract as much attention.

I absolutely second that.

MY best eBay bids always have been for the odd ones ending in odd times like Tusday at 3 AM. Several folks doesn't use snipers, either because they wanna snipe of a lot of items and manage the spent money themselves, or because the thrill of auction mean they wann asee and outbid their sniper most of the time.

I find that 7-10 days are a put off to buyers, unless the item is so utterly common or on the other side annoyingly rare/niche that people will not care/put up with it to get what they want.  Generally the 5 day seems to net best, 3 day is short but isn't offensive yet like also 1 day leaves you with too small of a window for interested people to chomp at the bit to buy it.

Also ending days works great or at least ending times.  Personally I try to start them on a Tuesday/Wednesday so they end in 5 days later on a Sunday/Monday.  That way people get paid friday, and they're more chill at home ready to spend after winding down, as I end them typically between 8-10pm local time.
