TGB1718
Is it possible to boot my STE from floppy disk with a hard drive attached. Basically I want to try s different hard disk driver (currently ICD Pro) and don't want to disable my current driver on the hard disk (sods law says if I do that my floppy will break and I won't be able to boot the hard drive ) So wondering if there's a key press/combination that will force booting off floppy and ignore the hard drive. moulinaie
Hi, on the Mage STE and TT, press Control and Alt and booting wiil be ignored. Then you insert your floppy and run whatever you want. Don't know if it works with STE... Guillaume.
TGB1718
Thanks, will give it a go tomorrow, cheers
Zogging Hell
The function of Control and ALT is slightly different from memory. Iirc holding control will run the current hard disk driver but not the auto booting programs and accessories. I think holding ALT stopped the drive booting altogether, and would boot from floppy instead, which is what you want I think. You could always turn the hard disk on after the ST has booted to the desk top and then run the alternative driver from the desktop as well.
