high voltage
So are the Audacity Games games, Circus Convoy and the soon to be released Casey's Gold considered 'homebrew' games?
lucifershalo
for me yes, as the 2600 and its games aren't commercially distributed anymore....
+KaeruYojimbo
There was some debate about this in one of the other threads. I know they think they aren’t for whatever reasons, and some people here give them special status because they’re former Activision programmers, but they’re pretty much doing what AtariAge does, which is produce commercial quality games for a no-longer commercially supported console, and AA is considered homebrew. If they’re doing this as their primary source of income and not as a hobby or side hustle, microbrew might be an appropriate term if you want to stick with beer analogies. 3
KevKelley
I had thought Audacity took the position they were not based on "homebrew" meaning some hobbyists making games. I kind of see it as every programmer/company is a Homebrewer but not every Homebrewer is the same.
Mockduck
They consider themselves a full time corporate venture, so they are considering it more of a new company making games for the VCS, but in practice it is essentially homebrew on a slightly larger scale.
high voltage
Great, I'm gonna put them under 'homebrew', sounds good. I have put Ebivision under 'homebrew', so I might as well.

Audacity/Activision were originally part of Atari, the games reflect the classic best selling authors skill at writing. Some homebrews feel like they are classics as well, imo it's really more about classic authors like Mark Twain.
BassGuitari
Personally I want to call them “commercial” releases for the fact that Audacity games are Activision games in all but name, but that’s really the only reason. They’re really not intrinsically different than, say, Champ Games and other high-quality homebrewers, so I see it both ways. But at this point, really, what difference does it make? keithbk
I think they should come up with a more clever name. Like DEACTIVISION, or something like that. +Cafeman
When is the 2nd game due? And any other games in progress yet?
