Audacity Games homebrew

high voltage

There was some debate about this in one of the other threads. I know they think they aren’t for whatever reasons, and some people here give them special status because they’re former Activision programmers, but they’re pretty much doing what AtariAge does, which is produce commercial quality games for a no-longer commercially supported console, and AA is considered homebrew.

If they’re doing this as their primary source of income and not as a hobby or side hustle, microbrew might be an appropriate term if you want to stick with beer analogies.

Audacity/Activision were originally part of Atari, the games reflect the classic best selling authors skill at writing.

Some homebrews feel like they are classics as well, imo it's really more about classic authors like Mark Twain.

Personally I want to call them “commercial” releases for the fact that Audacity games are Activision games in all but name, but that’s really the only reason. They’re really not intrinsically different than, say, Champ Games and other high-quality homebrewers, so I see it both ways. But at this point, really, what difference does it make?
