Spare parts for a Tandy DMP107 dot-matrix printer

Greetings, community!

I have a full CoCo 3 system, including the Tandy DMP-107 dot-matrix printer. Some time ago, the printhead was damaged and the printer is useless, even though the auto test works fine moving the printhead and trying to print, but nothing.

Does anyone knows where to find a replacement for the printhead? Original or compatible, I'm not picky :) I tried several websites and they have other models, but not the DMP-107, it was a little basic dot-matrix printer, perfect for the CoCo.

I really want to have my whole system back online. The CoCo, the floppy drive, even the mouse and the joysticks work fine, and I have some software, original and from The Rainbow magazine, that requires printer.

I will appreciate some help!

Thanks!

Alberto.

Do you have a photo of this printer?  What year was it made?

I know of the 100, 105, 110, 120, etc. and the line printer designations before those.  I've never heard of a 107 and can't find it in any of the catalogs I searched through.  No Google image hits either.

I have a nearly new 100 that I believe lost it's ROM after a nearby lightening strike.  Head should still be fine and it printed great before the strike.  If by chance the 107 uses the same head, I can pull it and send it your way.

The DMP-107 shows up in RSC-22 in 1991. I don't know of the print head compatability with other models.

Alberto,

You might be better off getting a DMP-130 or DMP-130A from an eBay seller. This model was very common and dependable. Print ribbons are still available. The DMP-107 showed up towards the end of the TRS-80/Tandy era.

Thank you, Michael! Just a question: Does the DMP-130 has the DIN port? That's my main concern and that's why I was trying to recover the 107.

I am not certain if they share the same printhead. It's a square one, connected by a flat cable. I will try to have a picture of the printhead to give you an idea.

You're welcome. You won't be disappointed with the DMP-130/DMP-130A. Just follow your gut, when choosing which one to get. The difference between the two is +20 character/sec print speed boost with the 130A. Top serial connection speed is 2400. If you are using the SDC controller, you can add POKE150,18 to the AUTOEXEC.BAS file on the SDCX disk. Which will set the baud rate on the CoCo.
