Altirra BASIC at normal speed

Is it possible to set Altirra BASIC to run at regular Atari BASIC rev C speed? I would LOVE to burn an EPROM with Altirra BASIC in my XE remake but not if my favorite BASIC games will become unplayably fast..

It'd probably be easier to do an asm VBlank routine that has a delay loop for a selectable number of scanlines.

Though plenty of potential for conflict with games that have their own asm routines, DLIs or custom VBlanks.

 

Maybe something that can be called with a USR, and sits at the bottom of the stack or in the printer buffer.

You'll need an adapter PCB anyway to use common EPROMs to replace the BASIC ROM, so you can have the best of both worlds... Burn a 16K EPROM, and install a switch to toggle between Atari BASIC rev C and Altirra BASIC...

 

Install a 32K EPROM and add Atari Assemberl/Editor and an 8K Game like Star Raiders or Frogger.

I think you could just plug an actual Atari BASIC cart into the XE and it will override the built-in Altirra, for the occasions you want to play games that need the slower speed.

That's not a bad idea.. The motherboard in question already accepts standard EPROMs and EEPROMS, so this should be even easier to implement.
