program the 2600 in a high level language?

i heard from a guy down in Detroit that he knew a way to program 2600 roms in some sort of high level language! Any way to actually do this? wouldn't it be quick to be able to code an atari game in something like pascal or c? one of you experts out there should be able to confirm this.

The short answer is no. It takes a thorough understanding of the 2600 hardware, 6502 (well, technically 6507) assembly language programming skills, trial and error, and patience to program a 2600 game. Here's a good site to get you started on 2600 programming:
