Trooper #4 Posted August 24, 2003 I'm going with the Saturn on this one. Troop
JagMX #5 Posted August 24, 2003 love em both - but the Jag feels much more comfortable to me - plus i love the turning on/off of music by hitting 0 and reseting the games so easily while far away from the system
+kisrael #6 Posted August 24, 2003 Jag. Just because of the good arguments put forward for it in the previous rounds, especially 'cause the numberpad might be good for DOOM.
Lost Monkey #7 Posted August 24, 2003 The d-pad on the Saturn controller can't be beat. The buttons on the Saturn controller have more "spring" to them than the Jaguar's, soooo... Even though I do like the Jag controller's shape and feel, I like the Saturn pad overall much more. Vote Saturn.
Atari_Owl #8 Posted August 24, 2003 Jaguar Pro, definitely
Agent X #9 Posted August 24, 2003 Darn, I didn't vote on the last round...although it wouldn't have affected the final outcome anyway, since I would've picked the 2600 stick easily over the SMS controller. This one's a little tougher, since I like both controllers a lot. I'd rate both controllers about equal for comfort, but I'd have to go with the Jaguar ProController on overall versatility. Like JagMX said, the keypad does come in handy for certain functions like resetting the system or muting the music (without having to go into the pause menu). As I had also said earlier (where I-- oddly enough--voted against the Jaguar ProController), it's also useful in certain games. It's not useful in every game, but even if you remove the keypad altogether, it's still equal to the Saturn controller in terms of digital joypad and accessible buttons, and also has one more function button (Pause and Option on the Jaguar, versus Start on the Saturn). Two great controllers, but only one can get the vote--and this time I am not voting against the Jaguar ProController, but rather for it.
holy_fluck #10 Posted August 24, 2003 First I dont know how the SMS controller is better than the type-s controller and is completely rocked against the 2600. But in this one I thin the Saturn should win hands down, I mean its got the same button config but the d-pad is way better on the saturn the controller is a better fit for my hands and feels alot better in quality IMO plus the number buttons while a somehwhat neat idea is not comfortable to use. Saturn all the way

Saturn all the way Even though Xbox vs SMS wasn't one I was emotionally invested in at all, I think it does kinda point to general screwiness in people's voting. I mean that one was the screwiest of all with all the "none of the above" voting...(I was guilty of that myself.)
Gabriel #12 Posted August 24, 2003 Even though Xbox vs SMS wasn't one I was emotionally invested in at all, I think it does kinda point to general screwiness in people's voting. I mean that one was the screwiest of all with all the "none of the above" voting...(I was guilty of that myself.) I started the non-vote voting. Even though I am fairly certain I would have voted against the SMS controller due to its similarity to the NES pad, I didn't feel using the controller in question for 5 minutes over 10 years ago was sufficient exposure to cast a vote against it. Whether others cast a non-vote for the same reason, I have no way of knowing.
Scooterb23 #14 Posted August 25, 2003 I'm going to say the Saturn one in this fight...it's close because both are good pads, I think I like the Saturn one just a touch better though...

+kisrael #20 Posted August 25, 2003 current score Jaguar - 7 Saturn - 4 Unbelieveable welcome to my world...I was aghast at some of the results too.
holy_fluck #21 Posted August 25, 2003 Yes some of the results i'm shocked at and wonder if its just bias towards or against a system rather than the controller (SMS controller vs Type S anyone?) but for the argument for the soft reset for the jag controller (they have that because there is no reset button on the console) but if some of you dont know, most, not sure if all games have this on the saturn as well this is dont by pressing ABC+start at the same time
JB #22 Posted August 25, 2003 Yes some of the results i'm shocked at and wonder if its just bias towards or against a system rather than the controller (SMS controller vs Type S anyone?) ... I'm genuinely wondering how EVERYONE that voted can think the Sony Dual Shock is better than the 5200 stick. Sony's pads are the second worst controller design I've ever had the misfortune of using(with #1 going to the original XBox pad). I do admit I've never played a ColecoVision(though I've used my 5200 and INTV fairly heavily), but I find it hard to imagine a worse controller than the PS(aside from variants on a theme, such as the original XBox pad's poor button placement). The d-pad tears my thumb up, the analog sticks are far enough out that I have to stretch my thumbs to reach them, there's buttons under the analog sticks(the sheer idiocy of that one feature never ceases to amaze me, and the only reason it's tollerable at all is most companies have hte decency to not use them), and you can't use the right analog stick in most situations anyways because it removes your thumb from the face buttons. I'm genuinely owndering how EVERYONE that voted can think the Sony Dual Shock is better than the 5200 stick. Most people wonder how anyone can like a stick that doesn't center. For most of us here, that's pretty much a show stopper, and some would go so far as to blame it for making the 5200 an also-ran. Many of your complaints about the Dual Shock are valid, but at least you don't have to push the stick back into place when you're done moving right or left or up or down. liveinabin #24 Posted August 25, 2003 I gotta vote for the Saturn on this one. I liked the keypad on the Jag pad, but not the main d-pad, button layout - I just found it uncomfortable.

Thats weird, while the dual shock isnt my favorite controller, i find that i dont have any of the problems that you describe. My thumbs never "tear up" no matter how long i play, and i dont see why the buttons under the analog sticks are stupid. and also usually when both analog sticks are used the shoulder buttons are mainly used for the buttons, if not thats what button configs are for. please elaborate, anyway one of my faves is the saturn controller and IMO somehow the jag controller is most likely gonna come out on top here
