quiet fan for pbox?

Recommended Posts

Anyone had a recent experience of putting in a quiet fan for a pbox?

I did a quick search on the tube, but it doesn't look like anyone's put up a how to disassemble the pbox video?

I grew up with the noisy fan in the PBOX.  This may sound strange, but I find it comforting now as an adult.  I think I would miss the steady noise of it when I use my TI.

Meee too. And I'm using my old PEB fan to push cold air from one side of my fridge to the other and I haven't needed to buy a fridge. Seems the circuit board relays and controls that pushed open and closed a vent fan and door quit on it, so this works. Been running for almost a year..or maybe a year already..lol

I've been using the Wathai 110V 115V 120V 220V 240V Brushless Fans <80mm x 25mm> from Amazon.  They're an easy replacement and are about (subjective here) half the noise of the OEM fan.

I'm in this camp.  I like the white noise. :)

I put a standard 12V 80mm PC case fan in mine.

Me too. The original is unacceptably loud IMHO. When I first got mine from @sparkdrummer my wife asked, “What the hell is that noise?” This from a woman whom never complained once about noise while living on or near USAF bases since 1992.

The fan I removed from my PEB was the exact same fan the drivers station had on those 1970s era Bluebird school buses.

I used the @arcadeshopper link as well. My new fan likely pulls less amperage as a bonus. You may wish to get a fan with a light so you know it’s working because those new fangled fans are silent.

I put two Quiet fans in mi my heavily modded PEB. One on the ATX power supply I installed and another in the middle between cards. As for disassembly, the response from arcadeshopper nails it.

Not recently, but I did install one much quieter than the original (anything else is hardly possible) many years ago.

How to disassemble the box is obvious when you start working on it.
