Under the influence of hunger

Just started this game over the holidays, and wasn't sure I'd like it as I'm unfamiliar with the genre (roguelike).

I am getting a huge kick out of it!  I have three crowns so far and have probably put 5-6 hours into it, finding it to be super fun.

My only question is, besides the gold, is there anything else that saves between games?  When you level up your stats for example, do those stay in place?  Not really sure and the manual isn't super clear on that.

Okay...played until 2am last night, as confirmed by the clock on my VCR, haha.  Got sucked right into a big run and then another one.  Saw the "basic" ending at the end of level 12 :)

Here are my strategies for success in this game:

-Start a "Deep Run" with 20+ levels of Hit Points skill, it's often weighted favorably, so grind for gold if you get under 20 by chance, go for it if it's higher

-Start a "Deep Run" with at least 500-1k gold, you will need it for Elixirs to refill your magic.  You don't really need to buy potions, if you develop your searching you will find plenty of them plus can use healing spell

-You don't really need to buy Food either, if you develop your searching early on you will find plenty of it to the point that you don't have to worry about it in later levels

-Put all stars on Searching until it hits the low 20's level, then shift 2 to "To Damage Bonus" and 1 to "To-Hit Bonus" and leave them there

-Keep your health topped off with level 1 heal spell.  Some monsters can kill you in 2-3 hits and that sucks when you are deep in the game.

-Time your hits.  I noticed if you take a second and time your hit your strike success is better.  Also if you are having no luck hitting an enemy try walking away and coming back, that helps some times, if all else fails use fire/ice/lightning spells

-Pass quickly through levels that don't have a crown (the game will let you know if a relic is detected) If you find the Yellow Star for the next level, use it, only spend time deeply combing levels that have relics.

I'm not really a roguelike player, but I really am enjoying this game it was very well done.

(Words of wisdom)

This is awesome!  Thank you for these tips.  I'm relatively new to RPGs and don't care much for roguelikes, but I've spent probably 25ish hours with Kings of Edom and have only found 3 crowns (I think....it's been awhile though).  I didn't pick up on a lot of these things, like the benefits of the "searching" stat, gold carrying over, and timing your attacks.  I guess I associate RPGs with turn-based combat and assumed there wouldn't be any benefit to trying different timings.  Anyway, I've really enjoyed Kings of Edom even though it's not a genre I usually go for, and these tips might be what I needed to make some real progress.
