Atari's 50th Anniversary Logo

Recommended Posts

From Bleeding Cool:

https://bleedingcool.com/games/atari-reveals-new-logo-to-celebrate-50th-anniversary/

"Atari revealed a brand new logo this week as part of a celebration of the company's 50th anniversary, commemorating its founding in 1971. The logo itself is being called the "GoldSchool Sunnyvale", and as part of its launching, it will be added onto several items over the next calendar year. Including a brand new game collection and merchandise. So far the only piece of merch confirmed by the company is a black t-shirt with the logo you see here on it. We're guessing there will be more throwback pieces across hoodies and hats like we've seen in the past. Here's hoping they make a 50th anniversary edition of the boombox hat they made when Blade Runner 2049 came out."

It looks cool, and I think this is the right track, ditching mobile, casinos, and tv production...

I'm still waiting to see what their other game releases are going to be. They said 12 starting with Centipede Recharged, releasing throughout 2022. So far confirmed, we have...

Centipede Recharged

Black Widow Recharged

Asteroids Recharged

Breakout Recharged

Food Fight

Atari Mania

Atari 50th Anniversary Collection

???

I like the logo. Calling it now: Recharged versions + Vault 1 and 2 + promo material = $70 boxed 50th Anniversary Atari Edition by Limited Run for Switch/PS5/Xbox. I'll totally buy it, too.

I also read they were going to release a 50th anniversary bundle of the VCS.

Nice idea. But too monochromatic, too metroish, too millennialish. Too many of today's seemingly requisite harsh edges.

It's fine.   Does what it needs to and nothing more.   It calls back to the late 70s Atari stylings.   My only criticism is maybe I'd want to see something a little more celebratory,  but other than that I have no issue.

Article states the founding year wrong…June, 1972 is the correct date. So 2022 should be a very big year for ATARI.

I see big tie-ins with worldwide companies that will have fun with the nostalgia. I see ATARI being used promotionally like Star Wars before The Last Jedi decimated Star Wars…yeah…that big.

It's not bad, looks retro enough with a 70's vibe but still simple & minimalist for modern tastes.

Not that much different from what Sega did for their 60th anniversary but hopefully Atari will release a heck lot more stuff when 2022 rolls around...

Not sure if I would've called it "GoldSchool Sunnyvale", however.

Too much of an obvious wordplay there.

Nutari in 2022: flogging hats, hoodies & the same old games for the bazillionth time 🥱 Colour me disinterested (especially regarding the "several really exciting lifestyle product collaborations").

And now they release some new 2600 carts… but they are way overpriced and the project so far is hopelessly incompetent.

That’s Nutari for you.
