thegamezmaster
Have an eight year old grandson who I would like to buy him a hand held system with popular built in games usually 8 bit. And be able to hookup to tv. Anyone have this happen? Which is best system to get him. Hope this the best place to ask. I want my systems back! lol
Mikebloke
Hand held Built in games TV connection Ahhh! Rare to find all three. Closest you might get is the evercade which you can get 'new' games for. Packages like this gives you a few sets of games. TV output by hdmi (though I guess you could convert down to av if needed). https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8448420?istCompanyId=a74d8886-5df9-4baa-b776-166b3bf9111c&istFeedId=c290d9a9-b5d6-423c-841d-2a559621874c&istItemId=imlatapwq&istBid=t&&cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59157|acid:534-693-8244|cid:9548734224|agid:97250267985|tid:pla-1300723097250|crid:422732075036|nw:g|rnd:3696084733441623651|dvc:m|adp:|mt:|loc:1006904&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=9548734224&utm_term=8448420&utm_content=shopping&utm_custom1=97250267985&utm_custom2=534-693-8244&GPDP=true&gclid=CjwKCAiA7dKMBhBCEiwAO_crFD85O_GWMWA-xjSUs2ylF8P8cSn6jxZZdmiZDMkEL9EFq9Y-wwGrNhoCpH4QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds I believe some of the atari flashback portable models might have some av/composite out. See this thread for the complications: Alternatively there is the switch.

As far as games, more along the lines of nes, snes, and sega. Thanks!
+sixersfan105
I believe it's mostly NES and Famicom titles but this could get the job done, and it's pretty cheap, too... https://amzn.to/3qNCD0Q
+jgkspsx
Evercade is the way to go. Plenty of NES, Genesis, and SNES games, and two great Lynx collections. Avoid the Indie Heroes compilation as that has some more adult themes in the adventure games, but I think pretty much everything else is kid friendly.
Tanooki
If we're talking above board and new, Evercade is about it. If you want to get into over complicating things, then you could try an original Nintendo handheld like a GBA that basically runs everything from 1989-2010~ish since it runs old 8bit too. Problem here is game prices are fairly predatory at this point, so you may have to stray into shady gray area multicarts and flash kits, the up side being lot of variety in one cart, so for a kid that's good as less to lose or destroy. Or you want cheap and just don't care about shady, you can get these like 100something in 1 little handhelds on Amazon for like $15-20 called like an 8bit li-ion handheld or what not, has a spread of quality NES/Famicom games on it played off a simple menu. There you just have a cheap handheld with good enough controls, solid screen and speaker, headphone optional, also rechargeable, and has a so-so tv out choice too.

Glad to hear! And agreed. Btw there are many similar listings of similar products (all probably made at the same factory in China haha) so feel free to shop around a bit on there. I have one and it's not bad at all for what it is.
Tanooki
That 100something one I said uses the same board/core style of the one in that amazon link I found locally some months ago for $10, it just doesn't have the 500 games and second controller in that package. The audio and visuals are nice, the controls work largely quite well too, it would be a good easy starter device.
thegamezmaster
Thanks for all the replies! Does anyone have any of the ones on say Amazon? Good or bad? Any other systems to look at? Checked the web and TMI and choices to know what's good or bad. Thanks again! The illegal rom dump systems are mass produced and probably change factories every other week. I wouldn’t worry too much about choosing one over the other, they’re all just clones. On a pirate system with hundreds of games preinstalled, you do run the risk of softcore porn games like Bubble Bath Babes etc being included, so if that concerns you and others make sure to go through the SD card and delete anything sketchy before gifting it. EDIT: apparently this is the game list. I have actively tried to avoid learning about “sexy” games for the NES, but that said I don’t recognize any of the ones I do know here. “Deflower Man” and “Assart” have rather concerning titles, though… 2
