Week 6

Red Label Games

Atari Red labels were produced from 1986-1990 when Atari was attempting to revive the system. These labels range in color between dark-red and red-brown. For the first year, the pictures were monochrome, then Atari switched to color pictures on the red background. The text is white, and the end label is red with white text as well. Some Red label games are re-issues of previous titles. Others were only released as a Red label. Atari also released all of their third-party licensed games with this label.

Just curious…why can’t we try and destroy the enemy base?

Because destroying the enemy base gives you 4000 points and takes you to the next galaxy... Without Gravity on Game 5 you could just spam the enemy base over and over collecting the 4000 points and thus getting a high score without any skills.

I was reading the manual for Gravitar and just wanted to clarify the rules for this round. The manual indicates that the goal of the game is to move from one planet to another in each solar system and win by either activating the reactor inside the base on each planet or by destroying all the enemy bunkers on each planet:

So for this round entering the base is forbidden and we can only do the "destroy all the bunkers" objective, right @Vocelli?

A much more respectable score after a bit of practice! I was doing real good for awhile and thought I might actually have a shot at rolling the score... until the lights unexpectedly went out in the third galaxy XD I finally blasted my way up to the 20,000 point tier for the bonus too, so I think I'm calling it good for this round. See y'all next round and good luck to everyone playing this devilishly difficult game! :)

I never really played the game before. Reading the special rules of the game in mode 5 I'd like to ask before I play it the wrong way.

So...in game 5 I have 25 "ships" to destroy the regular bases on the planets and collect the goodies, while shooting at the ufo's when they get in my way?! After clearing the stage from all planets, they reappear and I start the process of infiltration again. And this goes on until I lost my 25th ship , right?!

I also want to jump in and get clarification on the rules for Game #5.  I've included a portion of the manual below.

If I understand correctly, we're supposed to clear out bunkers on all the planets (shown in the diagram to the left) and that we are not to destroy reactors (shown in the diagram to the right).  In other words, if we end up on the reactor screen to the right, we should exit and hunt down the next planet.
