While trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, I noticed the AtariAge text manual had a large chunk of repeated text: https://atariage.com/manual_html_page.php?SoftwareLabelID=765

Is there a way to submit a revision or should I just ask Albert to fix it?

You should ask Albert to fix it by sending a PM!

Xenophobe: 349210

The best two weapons are clearly the Poofer Gun and the Lightning Rifle.  The rifle has a longer range, but the Poofer Gun does much more damage.  I prefer the Poofer Gun since you can take out the aliens at a faster rate.  The best defense against snotterpillars is to quickly clear the rounds before too many of them start showing up.

My game typically ends when I get tagged by an alien and my weapon blows up.  If this happens late in a longer round where there are several snotterpillars, I'm in big trouble if I cannot safely find another decent weapon lying around.  This scenario frequently takes me from nearly full health to game over very quickly.

Aliens spawn toward the edge of the screen.  If you just run across an empty room you'll frequently get tagged by an alien that spawns at just the wrong time.  To avoid this, jump into the next room when approaching the edge of the screen.

About half way into the game (around 150k points, or 18:20 in the video), I hit the bug where you lose the ability to fire your weapon.  Apparently this happens if you shoot an alien, but leave to the next screen before the alien is completely killed.  The entry for this game on Atari Compendium indicates that the only way to restore your weapon is to enter an elevator.  In my game, as soon as another alien clung to my back (at around 18:35), I was able to use my weapon again.  This is also where I scored 10 points by picking up a phaser (the weakest weapon).  For the second half of this game, I thought having a score which isn't a multiple of 25 was related to this bug, but after reviewing the manual, I see that picking up a phaser scores 10 points.

Xenophobe just doesn’t work on the Blaze handheld and the SD cards I have don’t work on the AtGames one. I really need a more usable real 2600/7800 setup…

Fatal Run: 58940 (NOT an improvement- did not pick up diamonds at all this time)

I keep getting massacred by people sneaking up on me on the fourth segment. I have gotten better at avoiding them but too late to salvage this game. One drawback of this game is the time investment required.

And just to get on the board:

Klax: 29375 (real attempt this time)

Xenophobe: 3100. Much harder when the aliens are invisible 90% of the time.
