8bit4life #1 Posted August 30, 2003 I was just wondering if anybody here was planning on getting the bootleg portable Dreamcast. If you never heard about it, its an unauthorized dreamcast with a built in lcd screen. Its set up so you can plug it right into your car. I just ordered some...and i might have extras... 8bit4life
Brian R. #2 Posted August 30, 2003 I did hear about this a while ago. I think I saw it at lik-sang. Amazing what you can find in the streets of Hong Kong, I guess. I wonder how the quality is. Not that I'd want to fork out the cash for one, but it sure would be a curiousity.
King Atari #3 Posted August 30, 2003 If I had any spare money at all (all my money's going towards Star Wars Rogue Squadron III and Resident Evil 4), I'd buy one quick.
snorlaxnut #4 Posted August 30, 2003 I looked at Lik-Sang, and saw this: http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3067 But here's another site that is selling it. I don't know if they still have it: http://www.jandaman.com/Merchant2/merchant..._Code=treamcast That second link had another link to a message board with a picture of the Treamcast playing a game. Looks good.
ATARIeric #5 Posted August 30, 2003 229 is alot of cash to fork out for that maybe 140 tops with shipping included, but i think i would still get an 130xe first, and i just bought a 800XL that cost as much as swamp land
8bit4life #6 Posted August 30, 2003 Well nobody seems to have them in the states, and it sounds like (from lik sang anyway) that sega's cracking down on the Treamcast. $140 is a reasonable price, but nobody is going to be selling it for that without losing money. And I've heard no complaints about the quality so far, it's as far as i know, a quality machine. If anybody is interested in it, I should have some on display at OKGE, so stop by if you happen to be there.
ATARIeric #7 Posted August 30, 2003 looks cool, i do like my dreamcast, but another 1 right now for me [/img]
Ze_ro #8 Posted August 30, 2003 They're really cool, and I think the price is actually quite fair... but I already have a Dreamcast, and have no reason to get another one. Even if it has it's own screen, the controllers alone ruin any portability of the system (not to mention power cords and such). If this was a handheld portable, then I might be interested. --Zero

Markimus of K. #16 Posted September 19, 2003 Yes, I got it today Lemmi, I was just comparing the screen to my Mobile Interact (for the PSOne) and it isn't quite as good as that. You have to adjust the contrast and brightness a bit depending on what game you are playing but it's still pretty good. If you're still debating whether or not to get one, do what I did. Ask yourself: "hmmm just how much longer are these things going to be available? It's not like it's going to depreciate in value over the years..." But that me... Markimus of K. 8bit4life #17 Posted September 21, 2003 Thanks for the plug Markimus. That Treamcast made the 12hour trip down to Oklahoma this weekend a lot more bearable. Personally, I love the thing, I hate that I have to sell them all. I only have a couple left now too. If anybody is still interested in one, I might try to get some more from HK. Let me know! Take it easy all!
Lemmi #18 Posted September 21, 2003 i might get one tomorrow after i cash the 2 checks from the past 2 weeks from work

Adrian M #24 Posted July 11, 2004 My knowledge on the Treamcast is very vague. Are these truly Hong Kong hack jobs, or are they just using existing DC systems by stripping out their parts and putting them in a new casing?
