Happy_Dude #3 Posted August 30, 2003 I'v broken 12 cx-40's and exactly 0 dreamcast pads. 1 vote for Dreamcast.
PuddWakkr #5 Posted August 30, 2003 I vote for the Dreamcast. I like the 2600 stick but the DC is a much better overall stick and my second favorite stick of all time.
liveinabin #6 Posted August 30, 2003 'Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool' Damn, this is hard. 2600 is a classic but I guess the Saturn 3D pad was just a damned good controller (and the DC also, but the 3D 'nights' pad was my favourite) So, gotta go against my Atarian instincts and vote Saturn. +kisrael #7 Posted August 30, 2003 Well, I guess this competition is a foregone conclusion. I'm happy with two final contenders, even though my favorite Nintendo innovations got wiped out early, there were some other ones that did better that just don't belong in the final 2 Though judging by people's comments, I think Sega has had an unfair advantage here...some people cleary vote for the Saturn (Digital Control) others are clearly voting for the DC (VMU, triggers) and it gets the benefit of both votes. Tw-Two-Two Sticks in One! For its elegance and grace, innovation and influence, and for this site being its domain, I gotta cast my Don Quixote vote for the 2600. Brian R. #9 Posted August 30, 2003 My nostalgia for the 2600 and its single joystick and fire button are overridden by the comfort, ease of use and great features of the Dreamcast controller. My vote goes to the Dreamcast. Reasons - it fits perfectly in my hands, with what I call the two "blades" on either side; I love the analog stick; IMO its triggers are the first truly functional use of the "shoulder button" idea, and they are great for gun triggers and gas pedals; they had the balls to go with a four button fire button layout; the innovation of the VMU. I only wish the standard VMUs had more space on them. I also noticed while playing Speed Devils last night how well the controller goes with the system. They really compliment each other in appearance. I mean, it's weird - on my Dreamcast box, it's not the console pictured on the front, it's the controller. holy_fluck #10 Posted August 30, 2003 I vote Saturn/Dreamcast, I think it would be a travisty if the 2600 won
liquid_sky #11 Posted August 30, 2003 told you sega was rigged to win from the beginning
chrisbid #12 Posted August 30, 2003 i didnt think the DC would make it here, i really thought the PSX would win the whole thing.
liquid_sky #13 Posted August 30, 2003 i think the fact that 2 controllers were l umped into one slot helped it.. i mean alot of people didnt care for the dreamcast but liked the saturn and vice versa.. but its all about the intellivision defribulator controller
chrisbid #14 Posted August 30, 2003 in my eyes it was the same damn controller, and i wasnt a huge fan of it, but had i left one or the other out, im sure i wouldve gotten a complaint of some kind. There were only 16 spots, and i didnt want any one company getting more than 4 of those. Of course, the ultimate controller is the Atari 2600 Paddle
liquid_sky #15 Posted August 30, 2003 paddles are awesome. i say after this you do a contest about the best atari variation of controller

Ze_ro #17 Posted August 30, 2003 Well, although the Jaguar controller is definitely my favorite, I'll have to vote Dreamcast here. --Zero
Gabriel #18 Posted August 30, 2003 You people are crazy. I played the DC version of Soul Calibur last night to see how it stacked up against the new one. I was remined how hard the controller had to be fought every inch of the way. The controller is more of your opponent on any of the DC games than the enemy AI just because of how awkward it is. To reiterate: Real Joystick > Control Pad. My vote goes for the Atari 2600 stick.
Agent X #19 Posted August 30, 2003 I guess I'll throw my vote in for the Dreamcast and Saturn analog controllers, too. I still don't know why these two are lumped in together, though. If they were separate, I'd pick the Saturn analog controller over its counterpart on the Dreamcast.

Depends on the game. Something like Sonic Adventure works beautifully with the pad. But I fully agree Soul Calibur has no business being played on a pad. I swore it and Mars Matrix off when I broke my joystick untill I could get a replacement. It's also worth noting that I voted for the Saturn Analog Pad, one of the best gamepads ever made, as opposed to the DC pad, which is mediocre at best. chrisbid #23 Posted September 1, 2003 the final score Satrun/DC - 10 2600 - 3 now that its over, how about a little side battle since there was some constroversy over including two similar controllers in one slot, lets let the co-champs duke it out for a day or so - Saturn 3D -vs- - Dreamcast
