What have you ACTUALLY played tracker - Modern Edition (2022)

While we don't keep any 1000 Minute Club in the modern tracker, it can be interesting to note that 301 games out of 1657 entries (18%) have exceeded 1000 minutes total gameplay. The classic tracker which has run much longer is up to 482 games out of 10602 (4.5%) to achieve the same. I'm not sure if that means modern games on average are played four times as long periods of time as classic games - my math skills might play tricks on me with that one.

Is there a natural breakpoint emerging in this tracker?  What # of minutes have 4.5% of the games achieved?  I sorta miss hearing about specific games crossing the threshold over here.  it is a really fun element of the classic tracker.  I was actually thinking about this recently and was wondering what might make sense as a meaningful amount of minutes in this tracker.  I was trying to do math like - if an average modern game takes ~20 hours to complete, and we'd want at least two people to play it then maybe something like 40 hours or 2,500 minutes makes sense?

It will be weird either way, as there are still modern games like Eschatos, which is 30 minutes long, or Sonic Mania, which I can finish in ~80 minutes if I don't do the special stages.

Then you go in reverse and find an RPG or something from the 90s that takes like 20~40 hours to beat, like PS1 Tales of Phantasia, where just finishing the game will instantly put it in the 1000 Minute Club. Then you consider that the first PSP version of the same game is identical to the PS1 version but with voice acting and new sprites and still takes the same amount of time to finish, so yeah, either way it's going to be interesting.

Not much this time.

PC
Flowers -Le volume sur printemps- - 351

Visual novels on PC, just the way it should be. Too bad about that 1280x720 resolution and compressed audio, though. Probably won't finish replaying the entire series before the new drama CD releases on the 18th.

PS4
Kangokutou Mary Skelter 2 - 82
Sennou Game Teki-Paki - 16

Switch

Croixleur Sigma - 13

Apparently I really suck at this game now. I was one of the first 5 people in the world to counter stop the survival mode on PS4/Vita (and I actually did it for the first time on the Vita, for that matter) and within the first 30 to do it on Switch, but I sure as hell can't do it anymore...

Here are my (non-)times for this past week (March 14th through 20th, 2022)...

As already mentioned last week, I stopped gaming entirely as of Monday last week, and so far I kept true to that. I'm trying to catch up with a huge backlog of other things I should have done, and I'm far from through with that, so I'm planning of continuing to not play anything for the forseeable future.

What # of minutes have 4.5% of the games achieved?

So 4.5% of 1657 equals 74.5 games. That happens to equal 4166 minutes. At the same time, 106 games (6.4%) have exceeded 3000 minutes = 50 hours so if there should be an entry level to the "endurance club" it should be 50 hours.

41 games (2.5%) have exceeded 6000 minutes = 100 hours.

15 games (0.9%) have exceeded 12000 minutes = 200 hours.

7 games (0.4%) have exceeded 24000 minutes = 400 hours.

1 game has exceeded 48000 minutes = 800 hours, though Animal Crossing is very close to exceed that limit.

In these Modern Times...  not much on this tracker this week...

XBox 360

Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing - 5 min (This was set up at the National Videogame Museum in the Third Party Software area.  My son and I played against each other in the arena style thing...  like the Mario Kart Battle Mode or whatever.  He beat me by one thingie... not sure what they were... circling my cart... like the balloons in Mario Kart... anyway, it was fun.  Maybe I should get that one...)

3DS

Pokemon Y - 120 min (This was my son while over for the weekend.  Got him the game after going to the museum.  It was a late birthday gift (he also got Pokemon Arceus).  I don't know how far he got in the game.  I know nothing about the pokey mans.)

Apple iOS:

Duolingo - 155 minutes.

Pikmin Bloom - 221 minutes.

Browser:

Wordle - 17 minutes.

My Wordle streak has broken and given my grudges against the NYT for numerous reasons including their attack on the Wordle Archive, I think I'm done with it now. Just watch, they'll go after homebrewers next. I’m happy with my stats while my streak lasted:

Nintendo Game Boy Advance:

A Sound of Thunder - 20 minutes.

A really fun if rather janky isometric Doom-inspired game with some extra adventure elements. This was essentially the dry run for one of the system's best forgotten gems, Max Payne.

Luma - 75 minutes.

A maddening and addictive C64 homebrew port.

I played a good bit of several games, but nothing really breaking 1000 minutes this week.  :)

Switch:
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA MegaMix -- 720 minutes
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe -- 360 minutes
Triangle Strategy -- 480 minutes
World of Solitaire -- 420 minutes

Xbox Series X:
Borderlands 3 -- 900 minutes
Forza Horizon 5 -- 120 minutes

I finished Triangle Strategy last weekend!  Such a good game.  :)

One of the kiddos and I tinkered around with the new tracks on Mario Kart 8 and ran some other track as well.  I also put some time into the rhythm game Hatsune Miku: PDM, at least enough that I could consistently score 'Good' on the Easy difficulty songs.

I finished out yet another playthrough of Borderlands 3, this time on a newly-minted Operative.  I'm working on maxing his level out.

Hopefully I end up spending some time in Tiny Tina's Wonderlands this weekend.

A pretty small week for gaming this week, with me putting just a little bit of time into Wordle plus a couple favorites on the Switch and Mrs. Skippy playing through another level Tomb Raider on the PlayStation. For the second week in a row I put off playing the Atari 2600 high score club games, since there's 3 of them this round and all 3 are new homebrew games I've never played before; which feels like way more than I want to have to sit down and learn and try to get good at. Whenever there's more than 2 games in a round I always procrastinate like crazy on playing them, but there's only one week left in the round so I'm gonna have to buck up and play them this coming week

Ineligible
Tomb Raider (PlayStation) - 168 minutes

Browser Based
Wordle - 42 minutes

Nintendo Switch
Alien: Isolation - 155 minutes
Night in the Woods - 70  minutes

435 minutes (7 hours 15 minutes) [267 minutes eligible]

Individual System Play Times This Week

Nintendo Switch: 225 minutes

Top systems

1. Switch - 2294 min. (#1)
2. Xbox Series X - 1321 min.
3. iOS - 1205 min. (#4)
4. PS4 - 942 min. (#2)
5. PC - 731 min.
6. Xbox One - 693 min. (#3)
7. 3DS - 120 min.
8. GBA - 95 min.
9. Browser based - 59 min. (#7)
10. ZX Spectrum Next - 30 min.

Total 7495 minutes and 34 different games on 11 different systems, with 9 participants.

By a margin of less than 60 minutes, the loot shooter Borderlands 3 takes the title ahead of the post-apocalyptic Horizon Zero Dawn. However in terms of the most played system, the Switch with 9 entries from 13 - 720 minutes each takes the title.

I've decided to add three "clubs" to this tracker as well: the 50 Hour Club (3000 minutes), the 150 Hour Club (9000 minutes) and the 300 Hour Club (18000 minutes). Perhaps those cutoffs seem a bit arbitrary but currently those fit quite nicely. It gives us 7 members (0.4%) in the 300 Hour Club, 27 members (1.6%) in the 150 Hour Club and 106 members (6.4%) in the 50 Hour Club. No games beyond those I posted last week have crossed either boundary this week.

Only one game this week for me...

XBox

Forza Motorsport - 610 min (I had played this for one race back in the day at a friend's house.  I did terrible.  But I've played a lot of Forza games since then.  I recently picked up a used copy and have really been enjoying it.  It says right on the cover "Better than Gran Turismo 4!", and I agree.  If for no other reason than the license tests.  But anyway, it's great racing.  Not as many upgrade options or cars as the latest games, but still really good.  I'll be playing and thinking, "Man, I can't believe this is an OG XBox game."  I'm playing it via my XBox 360 so I can have HDMI out, but there's been some graphical glitches and a few sound issues that make me wonder if I should have played it on the older XBox instead.  Just wondering if it's not really 100% BC.  Oh well.  I'm too far into the game now to want to start over just to see if the glitches go away.)

This week everything modern I played were older full games created in the M.U.G.E.N engine for PC. They are still all after 2000 so they would go here.

Cartoon vs Anime MUGEN (Mugen for PC) - 18 minutes

(copyright says 2003)

Dragon Ball MUGEN Edition 2007 (Ver 2.0) (Mugen for PC) - 12 minutes

Dragon Ball Z MUGEN Edition 2011 (Hi-Res) (Mugen for PC) - 96 minutes

Dragon Ball Z Sparking 2010 (Mugen for PC) - 6 minutes

(this is the title screen name, use this)

(a.k.a. Dragon Ball M.U.G.E.N Edition 2010 (this is the download pack name; I wouldn't use this as the title)

(copyright says 2002)

Progress:

Cartoon vs Anime MUGEN - played thru arcade mode as Mario on difficulty 1 (Easy). What a crazy story ending.

Dragon Ball MUGEN Edition 2007 Ver 2.0 - played thru arcade mode as SonGoku SSJ2 (Who we usually refer to as Super Sayian 2 Goku) on difficulty 1 (Easy) after failing to complete it as Goku DB (who we usually refer to as Kid Goku). The first full MUGEN I tried back in 2007 when I discovered it, it doesn't hold up that well considering how unbalanced it is when you select a weaker or normal character and have to fight an OP character.

Dragon Ball Z MUGEN Edition 2011 (Hi-Res) - I really made an effort to test this one out, using multiple forms of Goku. It seems pretty well done compared to the others I tried this week. I ended up finally beating arcade mode on difficulty 1 as Goku SSJ2 (even barely beating Goku SSJ4 by spamming the ki blast).

Dragon Ball Z Sparking 2010 - this one wasn't as good as the other two IMO. I tried playing difficulty 1 as Goku Supersaiyajin and the first fight ended up being against Raditz who was overpowered. This one also displayed in a small window instead of fullscreen unlike the others. It also has a disclaimer saying it is a demo and wasn't supposed to be redistributed!

Unsurprisingly, the majority of my weekend between household stuff was spent playing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands on the Series X.  I also put a good chunk into the most excellent Tempest 4000 on Switch.  Mahjong and Solitaire are the 'brainless' games at bedtime; I spent typically an hour on each every night before bed.

Switch:
1001 Ultimate Mahjong 2 - 420 minutes
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 180 minutes
Tempest 4000 - 900 minutes
World of Solitaire - 420 minutes

XBox Series X:
Forza Horizon 5 - 240 minutes
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands - 1440 minutes
