Not a whole lotta gaming time for me this week on account of being preoccupied with various projects, but Mrs. Skippy picked up the slack with a decent bit of time logged in the original Tomb Raider on the PlayStation :)

Samurai Shodown II - 15 minutes

PlayStation
Tomb Raider - 240 minutes

Sega Genesis

Playstation

- Twisted Metal 2, 30 mins. Recently picked this up. Not sure I will adjust to the frame rate.

Saturn

- Bug, 2 hours.  Kind of fun and entertaining,  but also has a lot of cheap deaths until you learn what not to do. I had 9 lives when I entered world 2 Reptilia, then lost them all mostly by falling off the path.

- Daytona USA, 30 mins. Wow. Rough visuals, worse than I remembered, but still fun to play.

- Daytona USA CE, the JP version, 15 mins. Just to compare.

- Baku Baku Animal, 60 mins. Beat it.

- Williams collection, Bubbles 15 mins.  Joust 15 mins.

Here's the summary for Week 05, running from Jan 31 - Feb 6. We logged 4475 minutes of eligible play, playing 94 games on a total of 21 systems.

Top 10:

1. Dr. Mario (NES/Famicom) - 437 min.
2. Solar Fox (Atari 2600) - 242 min. (#5)
3. Tomb Raider (PlayStation) - 240 min. (#9)
4. Jumpman Jr. (ColecoVision) - 238 min.
5. GoldRunner (CoCo 1 & 2) - 210 min.
6. Donkey Kong (Game Boy) - 167 min.
7. 2048 (Atari Jaguar) - 125 min.
8. Bug! (Sega Saturn) - 120 min.
9. Zero Wing (Genesis) - 113 min.
10. Tie Fighter: Special Edition (PC (DOS)) - 110 min.

Pre-NES top 10:

1. Solar Fox (Atari 2600) - 242 min. (PN#2)
2. Jumpman Jr. (ColecoVision) - 238 min. (PN#7)
3. GoldRunner (CoCo 1 & 2) - 210 min. (PN#9)
4. Assembloids (Atari 2600) - 97 min. (PN#6)
5. Castle, The (SG-1000) - 75 min. (*)
6. Skiing (Atari 2600) - 74 min.
7. Star Jacker (SG-1000) - 70 min. (*)
8. Donkey Kong (Atari 8-bit) - 62 min. (PN#10)
9. Drol (SG-1000) - 55 min. (*)
10. Rock'n Bolt (SG-1000) - 45 min. (*)
11. Kaboom! (Atari 2600) - 43 min.
12. Gulkave (SG-1000) - 40 min. (*)
12. Winter Games (Atari 2600) - 40 min.
13. Norseman (Intellivision) - 35 min.
13. Pinball (Intellivision) - 35 min.

Top 10 systems:

1. NES/Famicom - 691 min. (#1)
2. Atari 2600 - 523 min. (#2)
3. Genesis - 395 min.
4. SG-1000 - 325 min.
5. Neo Geo AES/MVS - 290 min. (#9)
6. ColecoVision - 281 min.
7. PlayStation - 270 min. (#5)
8. Sega Saturn - 255 min.
9. CoCo 1 & 2 - 220 min. (#7)
10. Arcade - 203 min. (#6)

At what could be the beginning of the end of the pandemic, Dr. Mario steps in and prescribes a good amount of game playing. While the totals are a bit lower than usual, the battle for places #2 - #4 is tight with only four minutes apart, which also carries over to the pre-NES list where Solar Fox is ahead of Jumpman Jr. I have indicated the SG-1000 games and added extra pre-NES games for this borderline system. On the system list though, the NES and 2600 retain their top two.

No new entries to the 1000 Minute Club, but Tomb Raider (PlayStation) breaks the 5000 minute barrier with a total of 5182 minutes. It makes it the 30th most played game overall and the 6th most played game on the PlayStation. Ironically both Tomb Raider II (7816 min) and Tomb Raider III (6485 min) are ahead.

Got a little more time on the Jaguar this week... streamed it some on Twitch.

Atari Jaguar

Tempest 2000 - 340 min (Was trying for top place on the high scores table.  Top Score is 500,017 for some reason... no idea why the extra 17... anyway, my best is 492k.  Best while streaming was 438k.)

Raiden - 50 min (I was doing terrible.  I'm way out of practice on this game.  Back in 2018 I was in top form... and was actually able to get past the first loop.  Today I didn't even get to the second boss.)

Cybermorph - 60 min (It always annoys me that the only thing people know about this game is the "Where did you learn to fly?" quote and whatever they've heard on AVGN.  It's not the greatest game ever, but it does work and that's more than I can say for some games I've played.  I was having a bit of trouble with the controls... I'm sure I'd get used to them after a while, but I kept speeding up when I wanted to slow down.  And I'm not sure that she even once said "Where did you learn to fly?"  I mean, I tried to go back and watch the video, but after the sound was too loud at the beginning, I turned it down too low and couldn't hear it.  Oh well.)

Lots of Slap Fight MD this time because its creator is making a sequel, 29 years after its release. The prototype is also here, but it looks almost completely identical aside from a flashing logo and the difficulty showing up on the game's HUD. Not much else to say this time. Too many shooting games. Must take a break from them before I burn out.

G/MD
Darius Extra Version - 16
Fire Mustang - 15
Grind Stormer - 4
Slap Fight MD - 262
Slap Fight MD (prototype) - 6
V-V - 22

Yes, V-V and Grind Stormer are absolutely different games.

Game Gear
GG Aleste 3 - 29

Still not sure if I should be counting this as PS4 like the other M2 ShotTriggers games, but I guess since it runs on the Game Gear Micro, I can put it here.

FC/NES
Twin Cobra - 10

GB
Tobu Tobu Girl Deluxe - 6

Arcade
Out Zone - 7
Tatsujin Ou - 28
Thunder Dragon 2 - 37

I just now realized that I have not actually used the Saturn for almost a month. What the hell. That never happens. It's not going to happen. I won't let it.

Fixed. Saturn is coming back next week. It's already been played.

lol damn it, it was a shooting game, too; I reached into my box of Saturn games and pulled out Layer Section since it was the first thing that I saw. So much for my break from shooting. No more shooting until the 21st. Must play other things instead.

2600:

Super Breakout - 7 mins

Centipede - 14 mins

NES:

Gun-Nac - 25 mins

Saturn:

Soukyuu Gurentai - 21 mins (game was very glitchy so I played the updated version)

Soukyuu Gurentai Otokyou - 25 mins (the aforementioned updated version)

Layer Section II - 23 mins (I wasn't expecting the 2.5D camera angle but it plays well enough)

Blast Wind - 20 mins (interesting game cause I never knew that Technosoft made a vertical shmup... and the music is very much like Thunder Force V's soundtrack and even uses some of the same sounds.)

Sonic Wings Special - 26 mins (hahahaha I played as a dolphin)

Gun Frontier - 14 mins

Kyuukyoku Tiger II Plus - 29 mins (beat this game after way too many continues but eh whatever)

A lot of HSC activity this Week.  Second week for Tutankham, although I barely improved from last week.

First week for Mouse Trap, the controls were so bad on it that I had to pull out Lock and Chase just to make

sure I my controller was working!  Picked up the new digital ROMS for intellivision released this week.  I'm terrible at donkey kong.

INTV (on intellivision 1 and intellivision 2):

158 minutes:  Tutankham

255 minutes:  Mouse Trap

5     minutes:  Lock N Chase

10   minutes:  Melody Runner

25   minutes:  D2K Arcade

DOS (on PC/DosBox):

105 minutes:   Tie Fighter Collection CDRom

Played the special edition last week and got it all configured, but the music is so much better in this one.

PSX ( Original Discs on PC/ePSXe )

25 minutes:       Tenchu Shinobi-Gaisen

50 minutes:      Tenchu Shinobi-Hyakusen

tenchu.thumb.png.ad08876d22709757906a27862fd2c495.png

I picked up these Tenchu games for PSX a way way back because Tenchu was my favorite PSX game and I thought these might be have more similar stuff.

Tenchu is such a gorgeous game.  I wasn't super impressed with these two tangents, Shinobi-Gaisen is mostly just an enhanced Japanese release to bring the features they didn't get from Stealth Assassins.  One extra feature it got though was a level editor.  Hyakusen is a collection of Fan made levels from the level editor.  The first few levels aren't great and no story.

Atari 5200 Countermeasure 30 mins for HSC.

Sega Saturn Bug!,  240 minutes.   I got familiar with, and completed, the Insectia and Reptilia levels. The 3rd world is Splot, and the platforming challenge has ramped up.  This world introduces spitting green stuff at enemies which really changes the feel compared to the first 2 worlds.  I am determined to beat the game without cheats. There are many opportunities to get extra lives and continues, but trial and error and memorization are needed to find these.

I don't know how anyone could play Xenon 2 for an hour... I couldn't play longer than 2 mins. It's one of the worst shmups I have ever played.

You have to upgrade your ship! Look, you put trilobites and diplocaulus in your videogame and I am going to make myself like it :D

It’s very different from Japanese shmups but I like it a lot despite the rough spots.

So long have you played Deep Blue for? ?

You should try the Game Boy version of Xenon 2, it's actually quite good and doesn't play super slow like most other versions! It's definitely one of my favorite Game Boy shoot 'em ups, right up there with Solar Striker, Nemesis, and Project S-11 on the GBC :)

Anyhoo, onto my household's times for the week!
