bfollowell
I was browsing through the Atari offerings on ebay when I came across a 600XL with a strange looking SIO cable. It was a regular SIO connector on the computer end, then a strange looking flat connector at the other. I don't recall ever seeing one like it before. Does anyone know what this is for? +Nezgar
Hmm. No hints from any of the other photos in the listing. It must be to connect to some 3rd party peripheral that's not included.
Mclaneinc
It looks like a tape connector for a C64 but with too many connections (unless there's some form of stopper on the longer slot....Weird..
bfollowell
Well, there were third party tape drives for the Atari. If I remember correctly, I think GE may have had one the worked with Atari and Commodore, depending on which cable you used. Maybe it's for that. I'll do some digging. bfollowell
Yep, it looks like that's what it is. I found one on ebay that had almost identical looking cables. I also found a four-year-old AA thread about that tape drive.
gilsaluki
Looks like a Commodore Pet Data Cassette connector
+Larry
OMG! That is quite a contraption. Of course, it might have worked better than a 410.
Mazzspeed
That definitely looks like a Datasette connector, but it's female so it can't adapt any Datasette I've ever seen to the Atari. It almost looks like it was designed to connect a C64 to an A8 via the C64's Datasette port, perhaps a way to transfer data between machines in the day? dzzy1982
I've got one of these that came in a box of extra stuff that came with an old 800. It was 100% unused after all those years. I popped some new belts in and it worked like a charm!

gilsaluki
I have one in the box as well. Never tried it. Figure I will also have to replace the belts. Any idea where to get them?
gilsaluki
I think it is for the external Commodore Pet Data Cassette. Look at the far left connector at Minute 5:

Any idea where to get them? I have a whole box full of all kinds of belts for cassettes decks and whatnot, so I picked a few small ones out of there and matched them up. You could likely find something that would work on ebay like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224787458065
_The Doctor__
It's not for the pet, wrong number of pins and size... It is the GE as stated, shown below is another picture from the same auction Edited January 15, 2022 by _The Doctor__
