Zeelay
I just found this 2600 Jr Vader. The curious thing about it is the orange logo... and also the texts. Have you ever seen it ???
+x=usr(1536)
To my eye, that just looks like discolouration. If it was in a heavy smoker's home, it could even be nicotine film. Is it a PAL or SECAM model?
+Stephen
Odd - the case looks brown not black too. Could be a Cleveland Browns special edition! I would say it's from when the Browns were relevant and winning, but they haven't won a Superbowl since before the transistor was invented (or there about). 1
ColecoGamer
What an interesting looking 2600! Maybe its a promotional unit of some kind? I’m not an expert on the different 2600 consoles like some are here (I had a Heavy Sixer as a child and a 2600 Jr today), but I would deep clean the console.

What I meant was that it was possibly discolouration from heat and / or UV (sun) exposure. 3 hours ago, Stephen said: Odd - the case looks brown not black too. Funny - I picked up on that as well, but wasn't completely certain as to whether or not it was intentionally a different colour (more like a 5200), or the combination of dust and camera lighting / flash weren't just washing it out a bit. Zeelay
Thank you for your suggestions. Here are some more infos... Quote To my eye, that just looks like discolouration. If it was in a heavy smoker's home, it could even be nicotine film. If doesn't look like discolouration (if it was so, logo and text would be even whiter - instead of orange) nor fro ma smoker's home (the orange is very vivid, in fact more than the photos that I have published) To me it looks like a specific edition, or maybe a misprint. The orange really seems to be factory-made. Quote Is it a PAL or SECAM model? I haven't already played it, but it comes from Europe, so I suppose Pal. As far as I know, the Jr-Vader model have only existed in Pal (Am I right ?) Quote the case looks brown not black too One more time, my photos don't perfectly match with the console itself. In fact, it is the regular black, like any other Atari 2600 Jr. Quote Maybe its a promotional unit of some kind? Yes, it might be. Quote but I would deep clean the console. Yes, that is what I plan to do I will post more photos when it will be done...
fiddlepaddle
One thing, spelling of the word "colour" indicates something probably...

Yes - that it's a European version Could be Irish-built. @Zeelay, would you mind getting a photo of the label with the serial number on it? More: Quote As far as I know, the Jr-Vader model have only existed in Pal (Am I right ?) There were SECAM 2600 Jrs., but I'm not 100% certain as to when they began to be manufactured or even if 100% of them were equipped with SCART / Péritel connectors. It is possible that it's a PAL machine, however. Atari 2600 Jr SCART Output - YouTube (YouTube is forbidding embedding of that video, so a link it is.) But also Atari Europe used both spelling, go figure: Color Colour And this PAL version has on the Box picture of the JR 'Color', and on the console 'Colour' (Sorry about the bad picture) Yes, would be nice to see the Serial number of your sad looking JR Edited January 21, 2022 by high voltage
Zeelay
Here is a photo of the serial number label. All the back of the console has been dirted with white-pink paintings, like if the console has been dropped on fresh painting. Fortunally, the label is still readable : S.N. 464 AI 041657 Quote There were SECAM 2600 Jrs., but I'm not 100% certain I've never seen any 2600 Jr that has the Secam palette. Anybody can confirm this information ? To me, at this time, I would say no. Quote as to when they began to be manufactured or even if 100% of them were equipped with SCART I have two of them and both are Pal. However, the youtube-video is very interesting : The thing that I didn't know is that you can play without the AC-power plugged : The TV gives the power through the Scart ! I will have to try this, if it works with my Scart-consoles, it would be very convenient ?
alex_79
The Black Jr bezel is a sheet of clear acetate which is printed on the back. Looks like the one on that console has yellowed over time, maybe because it was exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time. SECAM Atari 2600 are only 4 switch models ("woody" and "vader"). There are no SECAM JRs. The Peritel (Scart) model is PAL and only outputs PAL composite video through the SCART.
Zeelay
Quote Looks like the one on that console has yellowed over time, maybe because it was exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time. If the uv of the sunlight has yellowed the logo, shouldn't the with plastic in the cartrige port have also turned just a little bit yellow too ? On this console, it is still pretty white. alex_79
Not necessarily, as they're quite different materials and can react differently. The cart port is also quite recessed and could have been covered (by a cartridge, for example).
Zeelay
Yes Alex, you are right, so I have no way to be sure if it is the sun, a misprint or anything else... A good test, would be to let another console in the sun (but protected from rain - ie: in the Veranda) and see what color it gets with time. Unfortunally, I don't want to spare my other Jr-Vader

Unfortunately, I have no idea where the 2600 is, but I did find its box a few months ago. It'll take some zooming in to be able to read it, but the unit shown on the box spells the word as 'Color'.
