koolmoecraig
Had my 1040STF sitting for about 6 months. I had done a 4mb mod and it was working great. I went to power it on and I just get a black screen with a light grey blocky border. I opened it up and disconnected the drive to see if that would help it boot but no dice. Power supply problem? It's a ASP34-1 Rev. 2. Thanks

snarkdluG
Do the usual. Remove chip that can be removed. Clean them with IPA/deoxit (contact cleaner) and reseat. Both chip and socket. PSU still good? Got 5V? Monitor still good?

Seriously, there is more and more similar 'thread' - asking help in fixing broken Atari computer. Is Atari forum right place for that ? Well, it usually goes with giving some general advice, things what can be done without usual electronic repair equipment, knowledge. There were times when people simply brought computer in service. And those times were normal times. Some complained here that no such services now. 30+ years old electronic - anything can be bad. In any case some voltage meter is minimum, and it can buy now for really little money - I see in near supermarket small sized one for about 15 bucks - and it measures resistance, current, alternate voltages too, so may be good for some checks in home. IGS GUY
I would recheck all solder connections on any mods, maybe just reheat the solder joints with a dab of fresh solder. I had this happen a couple of times on mods I installed, just a cold solder joint.
bfollowell
Yeah, while you may eventually get some helpful advice here, the Atari ST forums here on AA aren't used nearly as much as the 8-bit and console forums. You might have better luck trying the Exxos' hardware forums. They seem to be mainly ST/STE/TT/Falcon users over there and there are tons of users willing and able to help. https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/forum/ Edited February 17, 2022 by bfollowell
