Hack Indy 500 to be Playable with Joysticks

Hello,

is there any way to Hack the Indy 500 game via Hex Editor, so it can be played with Joysticks instead of Driving controllers?

It would take more than hex editing.  It would require taking a disassembly (one IS available) and hacking it to [probably] remove driving controller support, and re-write it to support joysticks.  A major overhaul, I think.  The driving controllers are read in a TOTALLY different way than a joystick.

 

If it were easy, I suppose someone would have done it already, so I wouldn't hold my breath...  But who knows.  It's possible to do, but it would be an effort, IMO.

You can play it with a joystick using Stella as it'll automatically convert joystick input to driving controller input on the fly for you.

Hate to say it, but that would completely ruin the game.  Same as playing Breakout with a joystick.  The fun of that simple game (Indy) was imaging you really were driving, and that was strictly because of the controller since the graphics were basically non-existent.  Drifting in the ice levels was great fun, again because of the controller.

to everyone, who replied so far:

-this IS for emulators.

-My purpose of this, is to play 2 player on 1 controller, but there is a bug, that lets paddle 1 controll paddle 0 even if the other player does nothing.
