pixelmischief
Ballblazer: The THX synth drop at the LucasArts logo and attract mode synth music thrilled me. Asylum: The lunatic in the splash screen scared the shit out of me. Ultima IV: There were a number of times in my first playthrough when the sheer scale of the world and cohesion of the quest mechanics blew my mind. Joust: The player spawn sound effect really sets the stage for what is also a frantic and fun play loop. Played loudly on a hi-fi with a strong bass bias, that audio still does it for me. Yoomp!: What can I say. The graphics and music are second-to-none. The rising volume of the first sixteen notes that settle into an upbeat "hike" tune is soo well done. Donkey Kong: Having been a huge fan of Nintendo's arcade version, I was blown away by the fast, fluid movement of the 8-bit port. The NTSC "boost" probably helped. Alternate Reality the Dungeon: The character creation screen took my breath away. Finding the hidden door in the early maze wowed me as it was my first experience with that mechanic.

pixelmischief
Just now, Wrathchild said: Alley Cat amazed me as to how much was packed into a game I never gave this game a full chance. Just recently, however, I saw a review that showed all of the different modes in the game. I, like you, was amazed at how much there is in it. Can't wait to really dig in. RodLightning
SCRAM (A Nuclear Power Plant Simulation) for Atari 8-bit. I had the cassette version, loaded from my 410 program recorder. This BASIC game could lead to goosebumps when you were losing workers and about to lose the reactor. "Steam Voiding!"
