Skippy B. Coyote
I haven't gotten around to playing the three homebrew games yet, cause trying to learn and get good at three new games I've never played before sounds like a serious pain in the behind, so for now I'm just gonna jump ahead and play Super Breakout then hopefully finally get to the homebrew games from last round this weekend for some participation points Anyhoo, usually when I play a game I'm already familiar with in the HSC my goal is beat my previous personal best high score, but I'm pretty darn certain that's not happening this time because Super Breakout is easily my all time most played Atari 2600 game and my current personal best scores are 4,645 in Game 5 and 1,601 in Game 7. I might be able to beat my Game 7 high score with some practice and a few lucky bounces, but Game 5 is absolutely not happening XD Anyway, here's a couple scores to get things started Super Breakout (Game 5): 1,969 + Super Breakout (Game 7): 1,062 = 3,031

kermit73
Super Breakout: - Game #5 = 2266 - Game #7 = 2081 - Total = 4347 I hope to improve on both this week. As popular as this game was back in the day, this is the first time I've ever played it. I definitely prefer game #7 to game #5. It's really annoying to try and figure out just the right sequence of the four possible angles to take out the last 3-4 bricks. On Game #7, if you just keep looping the same one or two angles, it will eventually add a new row of bricks and you're back in business. Something I've noticed is that my paddles seem to need a few minutes to "warm-up" to move smoothly. There is no jitter when stationary, but if I rotate them a constant speed in either direction, they sometimes reverse direction briefly rather than going in the desired direction at a constant speed. After a few minutes of play, this problem goes away. I also recall observing this behavior with last season's paddle games. I've wondered if it's the hardware that needs to "warm-up" or if it's me that needs to "warm-up". Do other see this behavior with their paddles?

I always turn them all the way in both directions before play. I think it may be because they have some lubricant in there and moving the paddles around re-spreads it around. I don't see it much when I use them more frequently or say next day. I cleaned mine about a year ago and dont recall a similar issue. A cleaning a some point will help (lots of YouTube videos on that).

Sounds like the pots inside your paddles just need cleaning. I had similar experiences when I used original Atari paddle controllers that hadn't been cleaned in a long while. A few years ago I switched to using Best Electronics' gold upgraded paddle controllers and haven't had a single jitter or false input since then. They're well worth the money if you want to get the best performance out of your paddle controllers 2
