This game seems "Elden Ring" tough.  Not that I've played Elden Ring of course, I just gather that it is also hard :)

littleman jr. scored 1011 on our strange, erratic copy.

We'll try it on an emulator tomorrow night.

I figured out why my disk copy was acting so strange. It was not able to function properly with my 1050 happy drive. Once I turned happy mode to unhappy mode then the game started behaving properly.

And wow. It is a really challenging game. We'll have to spend some time practicing this one this weekend.

Amd people say Nintendo games are hard!  This one is brutal.   Not sure I like this one. Will give it some more time might grow on me.

Whew! This one is tough, but fun.

Once you get the hang of shooting gravity balls and not getting too close to the explosion then you can really get some points.

Slight improvements:

littleman jr. -------- 3,739

littleman jack ------ 4204

lowest score ----35

therealbountybob, when you say "white-out mode", are you referring to when the screen goes grey/white and the ship becomes a flashing line? Is there any rhyme or reason to when or how this happens? It seems random, but it's hard to tell.

Tail of Beta Lyrae is the very first game I bought on floppy disk after purchasing my first computer, an Atari 800XL with a 1050 drive and 1030 modem.  I played the hell out of this game, and would later buy and thoroughly enjoy Alternate Reality (The City and Dungeon), also from Philip Price and Gary Gilbertson (as you all know).  Much fun was had playing their games.  :)

yes like screen above -  if you play on and lose the life the landscape is grey and sort of desolate looking. Anyone else on the disk version getting this? My theories (1) the copy protection malfunctioning (I'm on an original disk) and deliberately doing it; (2) the # time played counter that saves to disk somewhere (anyone?) each time you load the game malfunctioning or not expecting so many plays and triggering the copy protection or (3) just a bug.  Either way(s) does seem to settle down and you can get some good goes in :!:

Will be playing lots more TTOBL in the next few days, the gravity balls really get you when you try and attack everything on the first stage, have to learn to be patient when swooping down. Once you complete all the sectors the difficulty increases nicely but your skills will have improved so it's not too difficult by then :)

Not easy for me.  6546.  I'm hoping to get some more time in on this one to improve that score.

Needs a bit of time at the wheel - fire in small bursts, don't be too aggressive in the first sector. The game is testing but if you manage the first loop it's then progressive each time round. You guys can choose to strart with 7 ships (see first post) :)

Hopefully not too far behind you, got to sector 6 for 1st time after a good hours play, had a few greyouts, lockups and reboots before hand 🙁

42,650

Round 6 poll is open as many of you have seen! This round is slighlty longer than usual and ends 9pm UK time Weds 13th April

This really isn't much of an improvement from my previous score. On the second run, the second cavern sector is an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE that I can't seem to pass, no matter what. Those "backbiter missiles" in a confined space are the bane of my existence.
