diannak #1 Posted September 11, 2003 Are they common? Are they flukes? Are they just re-releases? I have 4 varients that are not listed in the AA Rarity Guide for the 2600. I have a bowling text with the text being blue by Atari, a missile command with all lowercase lettering on the picture label and end label by Atari, a pole position silver label without the words "fast-paced track fun!" on the top picture label by Atari, and a video pinball (this one I have had since I was a kid) that is all lowercase lettering on the picture label and end label by Atari. Can anyone help me with this? I am new at the collecting of Atari carts. Up until this year I had my little collection (didn't really know there were soooo many more out there). But I am enjoying the experience.
Albert #2 Posted September 11, 2003 There are many, many label variations for a large number of games, although I would say that Atari was the biggest offender in this realm. Atari produced many games over a course of several years, and throughout the years labels would be slightly modified. Sometimes only the copyright year would change. Othertimes more noticeable changes would be made. And I'm not even talking about the major shifts in labels, such as from Text to Picture Labels, to Silver and finally Red labels. After the Atari 8-bit section goes online, I'm going to spend some time adding better support for label variations to our database, so they can be presented with each title, without cluttering up the main rarity list. I already know how I am going to do this, it'll just take a bit of time to update the pages and scan (and solicit scans for) the variations floating around out there. ..Al
