Scrolljoy?

As a big fan of trackballs I was dreaming about something like this:

- A thumbjoystich with two buttons.
- a paddle (scrollwheel) plus middle button click.

Is there something like this available for the 7800?

Even a dual setup like

- 2 button joystick

- paddle and button

would be ok. But does these work together or does the 2 button joy inhibit the use for paddles?

Forget about the paddles. The 2600 has a driving controller which is a perfect scroll wheel! (2 bit gray controller with 16 states per revolution).

Perhaps I make a 3D print for 3 microswitches, a thumb joystick and a scrollwheel to try it out.

This makes sense now. The device is most likely a two axis controller similar to the "driving controller". On the 7800 it would be possible to create a dual button trackball that works as a joystick or a trackball. It requires a bit TTL logic in the trackball to work as both devices plus a switch (joystick/trackball). This would also work as a mouse in the trackball mode.

But if I also want a scrollwheel on it I have to sacrifice the 2nd port.

Now as I understand how these different user interface devices work it would be easier to just add a small microcontroller with an USB input to convert the trackball to 7800 ports. Perhaps a Pi Pico? Buy a Raspberry Pi Pico – Raspberry Pi

Yes, that would work.

But I would like to see how a real trackball works on it. You could output short joystick bursts as you scroll the ball. In Wizzy the small movements when picking up objects would likely work better with a trackball. The Pico is also cheap. I just ordered two of them - €17 including postage. I could use the difficulty switches for choosing joystick/trackball-mouse operations.
