ATARIPITBULL #1 Posted September 14, 2003 I was sick and tired of these sneaky little pieces of shit stealing my auctions with seconds to go, so i fixed their little ass good today. There was a ebay auction that ended at about 5:00 P.M. for 10 nice looking issues of Atariage magazine and the bid was at $10.00 with only 2 bids in, so I have a very nice stop watch that I used to count down to the last 7 seconds then I pounced with a $35.00 bid and won. In those last seconds 3 other people tried to take it from me but I am the one left standing!!!!!!! UP YOURS BUTT HOLES.

Csonicgo #3 Posted September 14, 2003 I've never got into ebay. I just go to Game exchange. Down where I live, no one Likes atari, and I'll find two or three games that are 5 on the rarity scale almost every time I go in there. Ahh, taking advantage of ignorance
Nukey Shay #4 Posted September 14, 2003 There would be a way to almost eliminate sniping. I doubt if ebay would ever use it tho. Have the ending time for an auction increase by 5-minutes or so whenever a bid is placed. The only problem that I see is that the seller has no guarentee that the auction would end at the chosen time. But at 5-minute intervals, it wouldn't be too far off. hhwolfman #9 Posted September 14, 2003 Ahh my young jedi . there is a easier way refresh button and your computer Clock. IT goes down to the second. OR a sniping program. LOL
Nukey Shay #10 Posted September 14, 2003 You're right, rather than make a good change which would benefit both the bidder (who would in most cases bid higher) and the seller (who would get a higher price)...let's keep everything thrown to the wolves as it is. Anyway, you could have made use of proxy bidding.
holygrailvideogames.com #11 Posted September 14, 2003 I was actually the last person to place a bid. I placed my bid with 3 seconds left in the auction. You just outbid me. I didn't use a sniper program. Since I replaced my dial up with DSL, I can place a bid a lot closer to the end of the auction than I used to. I have been keeping an eye on this auction since it started. I would have bid more had it been a complete set.

jetset #13 Posted September 15, 2003 I hate that shit too, but admit I've done it myself though not in the last minute like that! Maybe because Im a collector I dont feel as scummy though as the ones who snipe it just to turn around and sell it. THAT my friends should be punishable by death imo. Of course, because I only snipe in the las five minutes instead of rten seconds, I wind up outbid by 8 other people anyway!!!
Brad2600 #14 Posted September 15, 2003 I had to resort to this type of behavior myself. There's no other option. I can usually be here right before an auction ends but there are some days when I cant'. I lost like 3 copies of River City Ransom before winning the copy I won. You have to put a lot of effort in with some games.
bcostin #15 Posted September 15, 2003 I've never understood why people get so upset at sniping. Sure, it can be annoying, but by my way of thinking it's no more annoying to lose an auction in the last 10 seconds than losing at any other time. I place my bid for the max I'm interested in paying and I seldom go any higher. If someone else wants to pay more than me, well, then I guess it's theirs. homerwannabee #17 Posted September 15, 2003 The best way to avoid snipers is just to put in a bid in that you think you are willing to pay for the cartridge. If you try to be slick and put in a low amount for the game you will probably be sniped. Just put in the fair value for the game and you should be ok 90 percent of the time and if someone does outbid you, just tell yourself that person just got ripped off. hhwolfman #18 Posted September 15, 2003 The reason you dont put in your bid early is, bidders will start chipping away it it. The earlier you put in your bid, more time for them to do this. Untell there is a better system. Sniping is the only way.
deathtrappomegranate #19 Posted September 15, 2003 The case for sniping. hhwolfman is right, and that is one good reason for sniping. I know that the same thing has happened to many people; when I first joined eBay, one guy bid on every auction that I had bid on, and no others. By bidding early, I was inviting him to do this, and so I stopped. No more problem. I used to get upset at being outbid in the last few seconds, until I thought about it. The highest bidder (at the auction end) wins. Therefore, I lost because I didn't bid high enough. End of story. The sad reality is that most people on eBay enter low bids, hoping to win. Snipers enter high bids, hoping for a bargain. As has been said before, most bidders bid for a bargain and hope to win. Snipers bid to win, and hope for a bargain. Many bidders are excessively optimistic. They hope that no-one else has seen the item, no-one else is interested, or that they, as the early bidder, have some kind of prior claim to the item. It is rare that any of these is true. The bottom line is that the high bidder wins. Bidding early means giving information to the competition, and giving advice about value to those who know no better. Bidding late means concealing your interest, keeping the price low, and avoiding the odious problem of someone who does not intend to buy the item deliberately pushing the other bidders to their max. proxy bid. Sniping is logical, and is arguably necessary on eBay, unless you want to bid an impossibly high amount. Why should anyone bid in the first three days of a seven day auction? Or the first six-and-three-quarters days? Phew! Where's my beer?
