Cross your fingers for me, please!

Recommended Posts

There is enough 2600 involved in this to justify this post, I think....

We are totally going to get hit by Isabel today. I am flipping out. All my games are in the basement, and if the power goes out, so does the sump pump. I will be moving the arcades up onto blocks, and if I have to, all the Atari carts and boxes. If you look at my collection, thats not an easy task.

If you are so inclined, cross your fingers for all of your collecting pals through this. This looks like its going to be nasty. My thoughts are also with the NC members (don't exactly know who they are) and my buds in southern VA.

Good luck with the storm guys, talk to you again when power gets back on and DSL works again.

Cassidy

Good luck Cass and all on the east coast.

It's funny, but I have a bit of karma biting me in the ass right now. As Isabel began moving towards the coast, I remember thinking "Whew! That's why I don't live on the coast - poor bastards!" Well, I have a business trip I have to attend tomorrow. Where at? Montreal....

By way of Newark, NJ.

My flight is gonna be soooooooooooo delayed. Bad karma! Down, I say! Down!

Good luck! I went through Frederic in '79 which was a Category 3/4 (It hit the Gulf Coast; I lived in Mobile, AL) so I know what you are going through. I wish you the best of luck with your collection but most importantly, STAY SAFE. No material possession is worth your life!

I crossed my fingers and now they are stuck. So, not only is your basement growing toxic black mold bad enough that the government will kick you out of your house, but now I'll have to spend $500 to have a doctor uncross my fingers. What a disaster. :D

Tholughts and prayers out to everyone affected by this. Fortunately I've never been affected by a natural disaster, but have come too close on many an occasion (2 summers ago, a tornado lifted about 1/2 mile west of where I was living...)

Dittoe. Same exact predicament here. Our basement gets water with a simple rain shower. We live in a valley near a creek. In fact, earlier this week, we had about 8 inches of rain. Luckily the power never went out (which it usually does). All the generaters are sold out, so I bought a marine battery and a bilge pump. So, hopefully if the power goes out for any length of time, we should be fine.

Good Luck all!

As someone who grew up in a place where we get hit with typhoons (aka hurricanes) sometimes up to two + times a year (to the point where there’s even a term—”Banana Typhoon”—that we use to denote a storm that “only” blows down banana trees) I know it SUCKS... even when you're as prepared as we were with our concrete homes built to withstand winds up to 194mph and withstand earthquakes, you still have a hard time when winds get up there. I've lost a lot of good stuff like record albums, consoles, classic game magazines, classic handhelds, and yes games to water damage from storms.

I see the top rated winds are 100mph. Hopefully that shouldn't be too bad as it'll be less where you're at I'm assuming. At any rate, good luck dude.

Fingers and toes both crossed for you, good friend. The health and well-being of you and yours comes first, but I know I'd be devestated in your shoes if the collection got ruined (I felt horrible when I heard it happened to Christopher Tumber). I hope all goes well!

Good luck!

And maybe you should find yourself a safer place. Those hurricanes will increase in size and amount due to global warming.

I hope you and your family will be safe!!!!!! If you still have time, why don't you go to a store and buy a few of those big plastic tubs with lids and start packing your best stuff now, just incase you do flood. My basement flooded once about three years ago, before I started re-collecting, so I bought about 14 of these big plastic tubs to protect my stuff just in case it floods again.

:!:

and to paraphrase Sam Kinison, 'if you live where you get hammerred by storms, move to where there are no storms.'
