Gunstar #1 Posted September 25, 2003 I'm torn between LOTUS 3 and CrazyCars 3, I think both rock! Any other good ones? I'm sure I haven't seen them all...
krupkaj #2 Posted September 25, 2003 I like Lotus II more than Lotus III. And also Vroom and Vroom data disk are great.
Goochman #3 Posted September 26, 2003 Out Run and Hard Drivin were decent - Wasnt 'Need for Speed' put out for the ST? There was some racing game like that that was pretty good.
+Sauron #4 Posted September 26, 2003 The origlnal Lotus game was one of my favs, as well as No Second Prize.
V.R #5 Posted September 26, 2003 Buggy boy is fun! But not really a serious racer. Super hang-on was ok, but the genesis/mega drive version was better
Atari_Owl #6 Posted September 26, 2003 Without any shadow of a doubt: Formula One Grand Prix and SUPER SPRINT Oh man, did i waste a lot of time at college playing that. And all the guys on the corridor. Worst ones, Nigel Mansell Grand Prix Ferrari Formula One (shudder)
Serblander #7 Posted September 26, 2003 Like Sauron, I quite enjoyed the original Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge. The other 2 that had me hooked for ages were Super Cars and Super Off Road Racer - a great little multiplayer!
Maarten Martens #8 Posted September 27, 2003 Don't forget "Stunt Car Racer" !!! Not realistic, but so much fun, especially with two STs hooked up! Maarten
sonnenhexer #9 Posted September 27, 2003 I recomment Buggy Boy, Stunt car racer (with 2 STs) and Super Sprint. Not all realistic, but FUN. Michael
Gunstar #10 Posted September 27, 2003 I like Lotus II more than Lotus III. And also Vroom and Vroom data disk are great. Can you elaborate on "Vroom and Vroom?" Is that a data disk for Lotus 2?
Gunstar #11 Posted September 27, 2003 Were Test Drive 1&2 released on the ST? Are they any good? I got a couple test drive disks with my Amiga, but I have disk one for Test Drive 1 and Disk two for Test Drive 2, so I can't play either!! The last thing is; where can I find these racers mentioned if they are on a menu disk some where, can you give the number; I don't feel like searching through 200+ disks for the ones I need. I'm especially interested in Super Cars, Formula 1 gran prix and No Second Prize. I have Stunt Car Racer and think it's fun, as well as the other Lotus games and Outrun (which is far too hard(never enough time), the arcade version was easier!). I'd like to to try the other Crazy cars&Super cars games too (sequels/prequels). if anyone remembers any other good racers I'm still all ears.
Atari Smeghead #12 Posted September 27, 2003 I'm especially interested in ...No Second Prize. Not sure if this helps you any, but there was a good demo of NSP on ST Format disk #45. I played the hell outta that demo. It took years to find a full copy of it (on eBay) but when I got around to pulling the ST out of the closet and loading it, the game didn't work. So I played the demo again. It's hard drive installable, which is nice if your hard drive is still functioning. Tho, it sounds like you're using an emulator, and I'm afraid I can't help you there any.
krupkaj #13 Posted September 27, 2003 I'm especially interested in ...No Second Prize. You can download No Second Prize directly from Thalion Page http://www.cus.org.uk/~alexh/games/nsp/nsp.html
krupkaj #14 Posted September 27, 2003 Can you elaborate on "Vroom and Vroom?" Is that a data disk for Lotus 2? No it is not data disk for Lotus. Vroom is great formula racer. I remember that we had connected 2 STs via serial line and have great fun with it.
Silver Surfer #15 Posted September 27, 2003 Were Test Drive 1&2 released on the ST? Are they any good? They were indeed released and came with a bunch of expansion disks as well. Played Test Drive once a million years ago, don't really remember how it was. Except for super sprint I don't think I've been hooked to any racing games since Pole Position back in the XL days. Although I don't have a hard drive yet, so I'd be running it off of floppies.
Mindfield #17 Posted September 27, 2003 My faves on the ST were: - No Second Prize - Thalion at some of their best. Fastest vectors I've ever seen the ST do. - The Lotus series -- very nice, particularily Lotus 3 with its night and weather effects; very nicely done. - Stunt Car Racer - Great vector stunt racer. - Hard Drivin' - Atari's passable port of Atari's arcade hit. A little sluggish on the ST, but fun nonetheless. I can't seem to play without the compulsion to hit the cow. - Supercars - Super Sprint with larger sprites and more action. I still love the original SS though. - Badlands - Atari's sequel to Super Sprint. Sort of a post-holocaust Super Sprint.
Ayreon #18 Posted September 28, 2003 Vroom is imo the best car racing game on the ST. No second prize is the best motor racing game although the poly's are a bit abstract. But they're the fastest in an ST game. Honda RVF is a nice motor racing game (simulator) as well. Always liked the sound of the motor and the silly animation if you don't use the throttle for a while. http://atariforce.free.fr/stga05uk.htm
+Sauron #19 Posted September 28, 2003 BTW does anyone know if NSP works on the Falcon?
Inky #20 Posted September 28, 2003 Crazy Cars 1 was a FANTASTIC game! Glad to get THAT out of my system. Seriously, the driving game I played the most WAS buggy Boy, although I did enjoy Hang-On
Gunstar #21 Posted September 28, 2003 Where can I find a copy of Vroom for download? Also, any suggestions for places online to buy the ORIGINALS of any of these great games? Although I REFUSE to pay full price or near full price for games that are 10-15+ years old from places like B&C, that's just down-right theivery in my opinion. Although $40 for the entire Ishar Trilogy seems reasonable, I'm not going to pay $30 for the test drive games and others!
Wrathchild #22 Posted September 28, 2003 Hi, I'd go along with No Second Prize, it gives a great impression of speed. I slightly favoured Vroom over Microprose Grand Prix for the car games. Hard Drivin' was nicely done but a little down on the frame rate. One more to mention is 'Nitro' by Psygnosis (or was it Psyclapse?) I tried getting into Overlander recently, but its just too hard! Regards, Mark
Wrathchild #23 Posted September 28, 2003 Oh yes, forgot Chase HQ, very good too! I had this from a compilation set of Chase HQ, Turbo Outrun, Hard Drivin' and something else (with a buggy I think).
Serblander #24 Posted September 29, 2003 OVERLANDER I can't believe I forgot to mention this one! This has to have occupied the top car game position for me for quite some time. It's one of my 3 favourite games from the Power Pack (anyone remember this Killer compilation?) along with Black Lamp & Gauntlet II (ahh, Gauntlet II - the reason for purchasing my Atari ST ). Wrathchild: I tried getting into Overlander recently, but its just too hard! The highlight of this game was clocking it once with NO cheats, well worth the effort if you like these tyope of games.
