liveinabin #1 Posted September 27, 2003 I just saw the UK ad. for Soul Calibur 2. I'm not sure if it's the same as the rest of the world so I'll describe: Two guys in suits, out in the street, fighting tooth and nail. One is armed with a string of sausages, the other with a bunch of gladioli. Subtitle reads: Weapons shown not in game The big shock comes after- We close the ad with shots of the Soul Calibur 2 boxes - but there's no GC box, in fact the ad. only says 'Out now for PS2 and Xbox'. For a Namco ad to deny even the existence of their GC version (with Link in it, for gods sake) must mean that all these bad tidings about the GC must be true. I love the GC, but it's going down. liveinabin #2 Posted September 27, 2003 Aargh! I've just seen their print campaign as well - here it is in all it's GC excluding glory:(
Lost Monkey #3 Posted September 27, 2003 Oer here there is a separate campaign for the GCN version.
MegaManFan #4 Posted September 27, 2003 Yup, there are ads promoting it during wrestling that say "And exclusively on GameCube, Link joins the fun." I love it.
Mr.FoodMonster #5 Posted September 27, 2003 each system usaly has compleatly seperate ads, they just combined two of them here
eldunko #6 Posted September 27, 2003 i think nintendo's advertising budget is doing the gamecube version
RCmodeler #8 Posted September 28, 2003 The Cube version was the one that sold best. It makes no sense to ignore it.
liveinabin #9 Posted September 28, 2003 Well this is what I was thinking (although I daresay the PS2 version will outsell it). BTW - I just saw a big double-page spread of a Nintendo only SC2 ad. So I guess we can put the valium away now
chrisbid #10 Posted September 28, 2003 putting link in the cube version was a great move for marketing
Sylentwulf #11 Posted September 28, 2003 IS the gamecube version better? I'm still debating which version to get (and will continue to do so until it's under $30) and I would PREFER the GC version for link, but how does the controller affect the GC play performance? I shudder to think of using that controller for any game where you need more than one button
raindog #12 Posted September 28, 2003 I would PREFER the GC version for link, but how does the controller affect the GC play performance? I have that demo disc with the SCII demo on it. I managed to KO three opponents (9 matches) by mashing the buttons and twirling the C-stick at random. I stopped not because I started getting beat, but because I was laughing too hard to continue. RCmodeler #13 Posted September 29, 2003 The flaw with the Gamecube version is the large green button in the middle of 3 smaller buttons. It just feels "wrong" to me. Non-symmetrical. While playing, I kept pushing the wrong button at the wrong time. The tiny D-pad worked just fine. I've heard complaints, but it didn't bother me at all. I don't give a damn about Link. After the boredom of Wind Waker, I hope I never seen him again.

Scooterb23 #15 Posted September 29, 2003 @ Liveinabin - Isn't the Gamecube basically dead in the UK anyway? I've heard stories about deep DEEP discounts on the system over there. If this is the case, then Namco's probably trying to focus on the versions of the game that will actually make them money over there. That's my guess at least. While playing, I kept pushing the wrong button at the wrong time. Actually I found comboing on the GC version far easier than any other, just because of the large A button. To each their own I guess. I've unlocked all characters (including Lizard-Man) bought all the weapons and art galleries, but I'm still working on costumes and arenas (much more slowly since it's less important).
