doncleth #1 Posted September 29, 2003 Just following up on the "Best Racer" and "Best RPG" topics. I'm new to ST gaming and I've just started playing Xenon2. Any other recommendations?
Han #2 Posted September 29, 2003 Xenon 1 is good fun... And I remember that I really liked Sidewinder. Probably because you could change the graphics in this game. And I turned all the enemy sprites into Commodore items, like Amiga Balls, Commodore logos etc And lets not forget Plutos... pretty miserable graphics, but brilliant game play. And it supported 2 players simultaneously...
Maarten Martens #3 Posted September 29, 2003 Wings of Death, Lethal Xcess, Stardust, R-Type, Zero5 (alhtough it is 3D)...and many more I seem to forget now... Maarten
Inky #4 Posted September 29, 2003 What? No Xenon2? That's prob. hands down the best shooter on the ST, with Laamatron up there as well. If you're looking for a platformer shooter, Baal is good.
doncleth #5 Posted September 29, 2003 Thanks for the leads guys. Is the 1943 (or 1944) on ST any good? I remember playing it in the arcades and it was a lot of fun.
Goochman #6 Posted September 30, 2003 Goldrunner is a good one
Atari Smeghead #7 Posted September 30, 2003 And lets not forget Plutos... pretty miserable graphics, but brilliant game play. And it supported 2 players simultaneously... I enjoyed Plutos also, but I only had the demo of it. Never knew it supported 2 players simultaneously. Another game that you could play two players simultaneously was Blood Money! Another good shooter, from Psygnosis. The premise of money falling out of the enemies after you destroyed them was brilliant.
Ayreon #8 Posted September 30, 2003 Ofcourse wings of death and Lethal Xcess are the best vertical shooters. Xenon 2 obviously is a great one as well. I always liked return to genessis. Can't remember much of the game itself but the music + the sampled "Return to genessis"voice is just unforgetable. Dogs of war is a nice shooter. TNT was pretty great for it's days. Leaving terramis is a good one as well. Don't forget Stardust wich is a great astroids like game
Maarten Martens #9 Posted September 30, 2003 Hi guys, you can check out the review section of "The ST Graveyard" (see link in my sig) for reviews (and loads of screenshots) of Xenon, Xenon2, Goldrunner, Return to Genesis, Wings of Death, Lethal Xcess and many more! Hope you like it! Maarten
Inky #10 Posted September 30, 2003 Anyone played Stargoose? How is it?
Han #11 Posted October 1, 2003 Anyone played Stargoose? How is it? Yeah I played it back in the days. It had nice graphics and was pretty weird. It had some sort of isometric 3D landscape if I remember correctly. But I lost interest in it pretty quickly.
sonnenhexer #12 Posted October 4, 2003 Return to Genesis was great, but Xenon 2 was my favorite. Michael
Sega Ages #13 Posted May 11, 2004 Among conventional shoot-em-ups, Xenon II: Megablast kicked it in style. And for a less conventional shoot-em-up, one of my favorite ST games ever... the superbly designed Paradroid
The Eidolon #14 Posted May 11, 2004 I don't know if you count it as a shoot-em-up, but OIDS would get my vote for one of the best. The pace is a bit more subdued than most shoot-em-ups, but the gameplay is great. --The Eidolon
Saikyo #15 Posted May 18, 2004 I too would say that Plutos is one of the best but my joystick is not very good so it hurts my hands when I fire! Also I dont know if this is classed as a shooter or not, but PANG is very cool also!
lkermel #16 Posted May 18, 2004 Is it me or Gradius never got released for any Atari machine ?... It was available for the C64 and even the Sinclair Spectrum but I've never seen a version for the Atari ST, or 800 xl ... especially as Konami games were released for the Atari 2600 (pooyan, Marine Wars, Strategy X) do you know why ? dma #17 Posted May 18, 2004 lkermel : I've never seen any Konami game converted on ST. My favorite shooters on ST are Wings of Death for ST and Stardust for STe.

Godzilla #20 Posted July 9, 2004 my favorites are still star glider 2 and carrier command (even though they have a whole entire 'nother aspect to them, I still love just playing them as mindless blasters, (Since I've already beaten them enough times :-) ))
Serblander #21 Posted July 9, 2004 My all time favourite (Car)-shooter is Overlander Han wrote: Inky wrote: Anyone played Stargoose? How is it? Yeah I played it back in the days.
