TT not booting with keyboard!

Recommended Posts

My TT Mobo which sorta seems to be of the working variety doesn't seem to like having the keyboard plugged in. If I have no keyboard plugged in, it boots, runs a memory test, then a black bar slowly shrinks until it boots the HDD. If I have the keyboard pluged in I get nothing for a LONG time and then a white screen only. If I plug the keyboard in after it has booted it crashes with a bus error.

Any suggestions? I really wanna play with this now :)

I think, that it is Port or Keyboard problem. Port - you can replace normally RJ11 plug (like at Your phone).

In keyboard you can check cable at keyboard board or check stick under key (sorry for my english). Other - you can check your TT with Mega ST or Mega STE keyboard - they are RJ11 ports too and are identical (electronically) as TT keyboard.

Best regards,

Sikor

I have had the keyboard appart already and all the contacts look good. And the RJ11 plug looks sound on both the board and the end of the wire. So I guess it could probably be a dead keyboard?

Need to find an ST one now...

Do you know if the regular ST keyboards are the same? (electronically) as I know they have a similar style connectore on them to what connects the TT keyboard to the cable...

You can use every Mega ST(e) keyboard. Even is possible to connect ST(e) or Falcon keybard to your TT. Look into Michael Ruge's Chips & Chips HYPertext, there are schemes of adapters.

In case another keyboard doesn't work try to change 6850 chip in your TT (there are 2 of them - one for keyboard, one for MIDI)
