SpendTooMuchOnAtari #1 Posted October 2, 2003 I bought a Springer Atari computer game not long ago on eBay for a VERY reasonable price. Is this game easy to find? Do many of you have this one. I have the box and instructions in nice shape also and it is neat. A rare game or maybe not?
oesii #2 Posted October 2, 2003 Have you seen Callipygous' rarity list, it's numbered 1-10 like AA: http://www.geocities.com/ejgnandt/Sept2003Carts.txt from: http://www.geocities.com/ejgnandt/Cart_Collection.html Springer is a 2 on his list, not too rare. EXCELLENT! Not that Springer is a 2 but the "Math Encounter" game cart that I got at my local flea market with a 800xl and a bunch of other carts is a 5! That sounds cool! How many of you have a Math Encounter? I also got Choplifter with this lot which is a 4. I guess Springer is rather common then. That site is great though! Thanks a lot I also found out about some of the Synapse and Dana games that I have. Don't see Alien Ambush often.
Callipygous #4 Posted October 2, 2003 Springer was a virtually unknown title with high rarity. Then a large supply was discovered in Canada, iirc. Why is it always Canada? Andrew Tumber sold a brand new Springer on eBay every week for a couple of years. Must have sold several hundred. I kept lowering the Rarity. Now apparently have all the NOS have been sold off, it might be time to bump the rarity to a 3.

If it wasn't for eBay though, I guess not many would have it. I wonder how much the first few went for. That would be interesting. It seems that eBay name "Poothacan" or something like that has a bunch of stuff with Synapse games. I got Claim Jumper and Slime from them....still need Chicken though! A 8-BIT SECTION Sounds great but I had no idea. Maybe I have something to contribute, probably not but I have some computer stuff. Do you have both Dana games, I don't see Alien Ambush often, I have that complete. Was this one that someone had a lot of too?
+davidcalgary29 #8 Posted October 2, 2003 Don't forget that the XEGS was quite popular in Canada, and I think that quite a few distributors bought up old stock from the US in '87 and '88. I remember seeing (not just Atari titles) quite a lot of old 8-bit software that had "XEGS compatible" stickers in the Toronto area in '88 or so, and know that a few old titles were quickly put into distribution to capitalize on Atari's "new" game machine. Callipygous #9 Posted October 2, 2003 I keeping waiting for a similar "wharehouse find" for the other Tigervisions -Matterhorn, Espial. Five years ago, Springer was classified similar to what they are today.
+davidcalgary29 #10 Posted October 2, 2003 I can almost guarantee that there will be quite a few interesting items in the market once people in the Toronto area start getting rid of their Atari equipment. I think I've mentioned before that I distinctly remember playing "Commando" and "Midi Maze" for the 8-bits in the mid- '80s, and Atari Canada often brought weird stuff to TAF user group meetings. With TAF dissolving and people "moving on" to other systems, I'm sure we'll see a lot of unique items eBayed in the near future.
