vanman #6 Posted October 2, 2003 Kaboom! end thread. Why end thread? Custers Revenge May I ask why?
Room 34 #8 Posted October 3, 2003 Custer's Revenge is the worst, most offensive idea in video game history. Kaboom! is a good one... the king of the "twitch" games. When it really gets going it's almost hypnotic. I gotta go with Solaris though. Great graphics, fun gameplay, and a huge, complex game world with lots of different things to do and even a storyline and goal!
StanJr #9 Posted October 3, 2003 Pitfall II Why? Play it.
Room 34 #10 Posted October 3, 2003 As much as I think Pitfall II is great... I have two criticisms: 1. The music. Sure it's cool that a 2600 game can do that. But it gets irritating really fast. I wish you could turn it off. 2. The red crosses. It's nice to have infinite lives, but it's frustrating as hell to touch the frog or something and get sent way back... especially in the last run-up to the finish. Plus, since you can ALWAYS keep going, you either have to WIN or just GIVE UP. And after I completed the game once, I never had the determination to see it through again. After a few times playing it and just... GIVING UP... I gave it up for good...
vanman #11 Posted October 3, 2003 I love pitfall 2, but room 34 makes a good point, the music gets annoying after awhile.
jetset #12 Posted October 3, 2003 Kaboom! end thread. I must agree. Kaboom is the shiznit. (Or is it shiznAt?) But really, there's NO WAY you could pin down the "best" game for the 2600...there's hundreds of games. What about Demon Attack, or Missile Command, or Adventure???
Room 34 #13 Posted October 3, 2003 Kaboom is the shiznit. (Or is it shiznAt?) I think it's "shizzle," actually.
Dolt #14 Posted October 3, 2003 CIRCUS ATARI In an age where people whine on about violence in video games, it's still a riot to watch a stickfigure get a flat head and writhe in agony. And then there's the fact that it's a great freakin' game.
Room 34 #15 Posted October 3, 2003 Agreed... Circus Atari's "violence" is hilarious and it's a great game too! Definitely among the top 3 paddle games: Kaboom! Circus Atari Warlords (Not necessarily in that order.)
jetset #16 Posted October 3, 2003 Kaboom is the shiznit. (Or is it shiznAt?) I think it's "shizzle," actually. Guess I'm as un-hip as my kids say I am.
Room 34 #17 Posted October 3, 2003 Take two doses of "Holiday Inn" and call me in the morning. Gregory DG #18 Posted October 3, 2003 Well, my pick defintely won't win any awards for great graphics, but I find myself playing Bowling more and more (now that I finally have a copy.) It's just plain fun. Say what you will, but there's nothing more exciting than getting a strike in that game!
Room 34 #19 Posted October 3, 2003 After enough beers, a friend and I have been known to imitate the Atari 2600 Bowling strike victory dance at the bowling alley...
Big Player #20 Posted October 3, 2003 After enough beers, a friend and I have been known to imitate the Atari 2600 Bowling strike victory dance at the bowling alley... Shit, I should have done this while I was in Austin with the AA crew. How many strikes did I roll that night?
Room 34 #21 Posted October 3, 2003 It's not just the dance, actually... you have to make the noise too. (I've tried to figure out how to flash different colors as well, but so far no luck!)
Brad2600 #22 Posted October 3, 2003 I'll take a shot here. How about Spitfire Attack? It's definitely one of my favorites.
StanJr #23 Posted October 3, 2003 1. The music. Sure it's cool that a 2600 game can do that. But it gets irritating really fast. I wish you could turn it off. ( My TV remote has a MUTE button, seems to work just fine in that capacity.... Pitfall II NEVER gets old for me, I can pop it in any time and enjoy a game of go chase the cat. (Why must I be like that? )
sku_u #24 Posted October 3, 2003 My current favorite is Off The Wall. I'm addicted to that game.
donkeykong1 #25 Posted October 3, 2003 E.T......HA!HA!HA! Seriously, I've always liked Phoenix since I was a kid. Kaboom is one of them too. So is Bowling.
