Best Atari Game

Escape From The Mindmaster. Multiple stages, and an actual ending. A good ending, too. This game always blew me away with it's graphics and gameplay. Nothing gets the adrenalin flowing better than when the heartbeat sound starts getting faster and faster, telling you the monster's right behind you.....

I think it's kind of cheating to compare Supercharger games though.

 

(Why? Because I never had one! Loading games from tape always seemed like it would be really annoying though... as my experiences with my friend's cassette-driven C64 attest.)

Yars' Revenge (great game play, nifty end-of-round explosion).

Yars' is one of my all-time favorites... loads of addictive fun! But I still think there are better ones out there. More elaborate graphics and varied gameplay, etc. (Of course, the 2600 is about simplicity and hypnotic repetition, so maybe Yars' really IS the pinnacle of the 2600 style.)

 

I still vote for Solaris... with H.E.R.O. right behind...

I'd say either Pitfall 2 as I think it was a landmark 2600 game for it's graphics, sound, and gameplay; Turmoil as it's is very addicting...and I've been enjoying Threshold lately as well for the same reason...but as for 1st party 2600 games, I'd say Star Raiders. I haven't played Solaris yet to make a real judgement on that however

Yes, Pong Sports is a label variation of Video Olympics disributed in Sears name stores. Not bad for an early title.

As far as best Arcade translation, I'd go with Tapper, Phoenix and Stargate

As far as best original game, Adventure, Yar's Revenge, Robot Tank

As far as best licensed character game Spiderman, Superman, and Taz

 

The top winner would probably be Stargate.

I have been playing Galaxian a LOT lately. I have the reigning high score at a website that I post mine to.

I have a few high scores of my favorite games there. I don't think it is all about the BEST game out of every game, it is how good you are at certain ones.

 

I bet nobody can beat my Pitfall 2 score. And if you do I will have some work to do.

I've gotten a perfect score on Pitfall II (for the 2600). Never got hit a once through the whole thing. I think the final score was 192,000 or something.

It was many moons ago that I did it, so I don't remember the final score. I just remember it was nerve-wracking going back-and-forth-and-back-and-forth up to save Quickclaw. Pretty anti-climatic ending... Just make sure you get the rat before Quickclaw...

yes, as a kid, I once aquired a perfect pf2 score. I used to have all the flying animal dodging patterns like second nature. Wonder how long it would take me to do it again, or even if me aged reflexes could manage or, or could I withstand the frustration again... that game really burned my bicuits.

I always play for an hour or so, then get pissed off at the fact that I have done a part of the game like 50 times, then I go play Kaboom!.

Hi, I don't think there are any GOOD sports games for the 2600. My vote for the BEST game has to be either HERO or Seaquest. My high score on HERO is 159,900 on level 18. And that is starting from the beginning, not by using the game select switch. Any my high score on Seaquest is 160,290, and that is with the difficulty switch on easy. It still really isn't that easy.

I -LOVE- 2600 realsports tennis, and I generally hate sports games. It's funny, I generally hate sports games, but since most 2600 sport games were really just action games, I liked them. I should say, I generally hate modern type sports games. My favorite football game is STILL blitz for the vectrex.

I TOTALLY for got about the Realsports lineup. The only ones I played a lot were Volleyball and Tennis. Although I think activisions Skiing has to be the WORST! Ice Hockey is okay.

Coming in second is Super Football.

 

Ice Hockey is third.

The first game I'm thinking about when talking about the BEST game is Yar's Revenge.

 

Why ? Because it's very addictive and what a pleasure to destroy the swirl in Mid-air every time I did it it makes my heart beat accelerate
