Goochman #1 Posted October 2, 2003 Though not a 5200 fan I had an interesting story with mine - about 3 months ago I got my Koffi cart and brought the 5200 out of retirement only to have the new stick not work 100% Fire buttons and Start button were flaky - I have a Wico stick so I was able to play Koffi a bit. Right after that I put Astrochase in and when the 5200 fired up the screen was garbage - sound was coming out but something was obviously wrong - Every cart had an issue - Now I really hated the 5200!!! A few weeks back I started being a beta tester for the Cuttle Cart II - This needs a Pokey chip inorder to play sound in some 7800 games - I thought what a great way to butcher my 5200 and get something out of it. After cracking it open fighting with the 'metal tabs' - and then not finding a chip labeled 'POKEY' - I finally found the chip socketed , pried it out and put it in my Cuttle Cart 2 - Didnt work - garbage sounds came out So I ordered a Pokey chi pfrom Best for $5 - since they were so cheap I ordered 3 for the heck of it. Got them today and plugged one into my 5200 thats been sitting on the operating table - Wala - its ALIVE Of course the joysticks dont work
jsoper #2 Posted October 3, 2003 Good job. I've had a couple bad Pokeys myself over the years, even one I bought from Best was dead on arrival. You can desolder one from a 7800 cart that uses them like Ballblazer, but I'd rather just go through Best, not worth the time.
Rob Mitchell #3 Posted October 3, 2003 Found another 800XL .. so I pulled the pokey out of it for the CC2. Maybe I'll order a couple of Pokeys too! You gotta build a Masterplay interface. BTW: Anyone have an extra 5200 Star Raiders with overlay they can throw my way? I wanna play SR with analog flight controller.
