SpendTooMuchOnAtari #3 Posted October 3, 2003 If I saw that at a sale and not even knowing for sure that the system didn't work but of course assuming it did not. I would pay no more than $15 as I would only buy it for resale. The S&H is what kills on most system auctions for the buyer. But, I don't know how to repair those darn things. I have many, many "broken" Atari's including a Heavy Sixer!
Spirantho #4 Posted October 3, 2003 How much do you want for the lot? :-) Seriously, if you want a bit of extra cash, sell 'em. Dead Ataris are worth good money to people like me as they're often quite easy to fix and great for modding when they're working as they've already been 'defiled'. Of course, I`m not such a great person to sell 'em to as I`m across the pond. Wonder how much surface mail shipping would be though.....
vanman #5 Posted October 4, 2003 I am not selling ,I am buying. The seller is selling it all for $40, and I was wondering if it was a good deal.
Christophero Sly #6 Posted October 4, 2003 I'm sorry, I don't think $40 is a good deal for that lot. With no PSU, bad labels, repairs, common games, and "untested"...No. Maybe $10.
sku_u #7 Posted October 4, 2003 Hey all, I'm the person offering this set to Vanman for $40.00. He neglected to mention that the price includes Priority Mail shipping, and the system DOES work thanks to some tinkering on my part. I'm offering it to set up someone who is just getting started but does not have a system or games. My goal is to get young gamers interested in classic gaming. If the concensus is that this is an unreasonable amount, feel free to PM me with suggestions. I also offered him all of the games listed for $15.00 shipped. Keep in mind that sending a system Media Mail is not an option when it comes to sending game systems. Read CPU's comprehensive thread on Mediamail for some of the reasons why Cheers, John
donkeykong1 #8 Posted October 4, 2003 I say take it. it's much cheaper than I would have sold you that. On ebay you'll pay much more than that, plus shipping. I might have some other gamesthat are not listed there. LMK if still interested.
cwilkson #9 Posted October 4, 2003 Yeah, I think it worth it in this case. It's working, you're getting it from someone who's somewhat well known to you (as opposed to Sum Guy from British Columbia), and it's a nice starter selection of games, and shipping is included. Ataris are heavy, so that certainly counts for something. Go for it! -Chris
cvga #10 Posted October 4, 2003 I wouldn't purchase it. Based on my observations, a system that has problems (no power supply, broken switches, touchy cart slot) does not make a good beginner system. I'd recommend buying a system that works perfectly for your first experience.
vanman #11 Posted October 4, 2003 ok, but where can I get one?
vanman #12 Posted October 4, 2003 I mean Sku_u sounds like a good deal, and all I have is $40.
cvga #13 Posted October 4, 2003 He was offering the games for $15. I would think that it wouldn't be too difficult to get a better working system for $25 shipped. Do you already have a power supply or will you need to buy one of those also?
jetset #14 Posted October 4, 2003 sku_u is a good guy to deal with vanman...$40 for that is a pretty good deal, though truthfully if it were me I would ask him to test the controllers. Those carts are all mega common, but there's 26 if I counted right. Thats a nice amount. Also anyone here KNOWS I'll be the first one to bitch when shipping is high. He's sending the whole thing priority, which has to be at least close to $10, so in essence you're getting the lot for $30 give or take. Check ebay and compare prices to get an idea of what kind of deal you are getting. http://search-completed.ebay.com/search/se...completedonly=1 If it doesn't include the power supplyor RF switch, maybe poke around here on AA. Someone might be generous and send you one.
vanman #15 Posted October 4, 2003 I asked him to test the controllers and he said no, so what am I going to do?
cvga #16 Posted October 4, 2003 I asked him to test the controllers and he said no, so what am I going to do? Doesn't that answer your own question? I'm not denying that sku is a great guy but if I only had $40 and wanted to play atari, I wouldn't spend $40 on a broken atari.
sku_u #17 Posted October 4, 2003 I asked him to test the controllers and he said no, so what am I going to do? Doesn't that answer your own question? I'm not denying that sku is a great guy but if I only had $40 and wanted to play atari, I wouldn't spend $40 on a broken atari. If you want to come over my house and test a box full of controllers the size of a large TV to find the two most responsive ones for a HANDOUT, be my guest. THE OFFER IS OFF THE TABLE. THIS IS THE LAST TIME I TRY TO BE NICE TO A NEWBIE
sku_u #18 Posted October 4, 2003 Btw, why didn't you just try to get a 7800 since you want one anyway instead of a 2600? A 7800 can play 2600 games. I would have taken the games then concentrated on getting a 7800 if I were you.
vanman #19 Posted October 4, 2003 I just wanted to know if I was getting jipped, sorry, I didnt want a Handout, other offers told me that Untested meant un working. Then a couple other offers told me to get a 7800 instead of a 2600, so I wanted to know how much those would go for. Thanks for being nice to a newbie. cvga #20 Posted October 4, 2003 It wasn't necessarily a bad deal but you didn't miss out on anything special anyhow. I'd still recommend holding out for a complete and working system.
