SpendTooMuchOnAtari #1 Posted October 4, 2003 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...9&category=3537 I don't understand keeping your feedback private. Is it that personal, something to hide maybe? What's the deal here? What kind of people buy from these folk?
smile_walle #2 Posted October 4, 2003 Yeah, I wont bid his auction, beacuse seller not let me check his feedback! Also there is no pictures on his auction as well....
skeletor #3 Posted October 4, 2003 Yep I too won't bid on any auction that the seller has private feedback, nor will I allow a bidder with private feedback to bid on any of my auctions.
JerseyDevil #4 Posted October 4, 2003 It makes people more suspicious if you hide your feedback. Before I would hide my feedback, I would make a new ID and start over.
Albert #5 Posted October 4, 2003 I agree, setting your feedback to private is pretty suspicious in my opinion and I'd be very unlikely to do business with that person. I can see no "good" reason to hide your feedback unless you have some negative feedback you'd like to keep people from viewing. Are there other reasons? ..Al

Personally i would NOT buy from those sellers! Take care, Rick
Rick Weis #7 Posted October 4, 2003 now that i think about it, i did once bid on a auction where the seller had private feedback. funny thing is he had 100% positive feedback!! (like over 100) i asked him why and never got a reply. but i did get my item quickly! Take care, rick
sku_u #8 Posted October 4, 2003 Usually people who have private feedback have something to hide, but in a few rare instances, they may have done this to keep an Ebay stalker away from them.
JerseyDevil #9 Posted October 4, 2003 If someone hides their feedack you can still tell how many negatives they have, you just can't read them. So the only reason I can think of is that the negatives must be real bad. Back in the day you could leave feedback for anyone about anything. Now you must have a transaction number to leave it. You saw people with negatives for not answering e-mails, etc. Now you must win an auction to leave feedback which is much better. I would rather buy from someone new than someone who hides their feedback. At one time everybody had 0 feedback.
froggger2 #10 Posted October 4, 2003 I saw a listing recently where a seller claimed to have had a bidder buy a large number of listed items using Buy it Now and then immediately post negative feedback with obscene comments for each. The seller suspected retaliation for negative feedback he had posted for a deadbeat bidder. The seller said he was making his feedback private while he tried to get eBay to remove the negative feedback and obscene comments. While I sympathized with the seller, I still probably would have felt better buying from a seller with zero feedback.
Clock #11 Posted October 4, 2003 To hide negative feedback is certainly one reason why people would use private feedback. However, the seller may also be selling things that eBay doesn't allow like personal items or anything dodgy or embarrasing. That's the only other reason I can think of..... either way I wouldn't buy from a seller who hides his feedback. I check all feedback before I bid and I have never had a problem on eBay yet and my feedback is 69 with 100%
Room 34 #12 Posted October 4, 2003 ...the seller may also be selling things that eBay doesn't allow like personal items ... Or... buying them. Seriously... this person has almost all positive feedback. There were 3 negatives between 1 and 6 months ago. Either those negatives were REALLY nasty... or this seller doesn't want you to know he's been buying women's lingerie. (Thought I'd just spell it out a little more blatantly than necessary...) SS #13 Posted October 4, 2003 Private Feedback? I don't get it. Yeah, but you should hear what they're saying behind your back Ahhhh ... I slay me!

I think if I was going to buy items I would be embarassed about, that I'd create a second account for that purpose, with as few links back to my real persona as possible. ..Al
sonnenhexer #15 Posted October 4, 2003 I read this explanation the last days: One seller/buyer on ebay said, that he kept his feedback private because he buys things for birthdays and/or xmas on ebay and if everyone can see what he bought, there will be no surprise. Nice explanation, but why does this person does not use a second ebay-account? Private feedback is always suspicious. Greets Michael
deathtrappomegranate #16 Posted October 4, 2003 Nice explanation, but why does this person does not use a second ebay-account? Private feedback is always suspicious. Exactly. There is no problem with creating multiple accounts. The people with hidden feedback; A. Have something to hide, and B. Are too dumb to hide it Not a good combination to ensure a smooth deal.
