Drome Racers for the GameCube

Recommended Posts

I bought Drome Racers tonight, mainly because it's the last game put out by Attention to Detail, the software house that developed Cybermorph and Battlemorph for the Jaguar. Well, after playing it, I have to say that it looks fantastic. The graphics are excellent. Gameplay, on the other hand...... This game is about racing Lego cars. So why the realistic handling instead of a more arcade kind of feel? I've never liked 'real' racing games because I don't like 'real' physics. I like staying on the road instead of doing donuts on the track and spinning into a guardrail. This game is supposed to be a sort-of kids type game, but the real world handling kills it for me. It's too hard to take even minor turns and stay in control. But then, i've never gotten used to analog sticks. I'm a little too old school. I'm used to 2600 style controllers and so I use the analog stick like a 2600 joystick. It might just be me.

Anyone else try this game yet? I just wish they could have brought out an updated Battlemorph for the GC instead of spending their time with a Lego license. Battlemorph on a graphics powerhouse like the GameCube would have rocked!

I'll probably hold off on racing games until Mario Kart Cube comes out... or until I find a juicy price for F-Zero GX. The two of those will probably satisfy just about all my racing needs.

I'd love to see a new Battlemorph though... that game was quite easily my favorite Jaguar game ever.

Nice Avatar by the way... probably my favorite 1/3 of a Futurama episode :)
