Nintendo Penguin #1 Posted October 8, 2003 EA has been pissing me off lately! Anyone else interested in an EA boycott? If so, why?
Ze_ro #2 Posted October 8, 2003 I'm in. Their hockey games completely suck. If anyone out there likes hockey and is considering buying NHL 2004, please look into getting ESPN NHL Hockey instead... the game is way better, and much more technically accurate. I still can't believe they thought it would be a good idea for the announcer to insult the player in NHL 2003. That's completely stupid and ridiculous. --Zero
JagMX #3 Posted October 8, 2003 the announcers in ea's hockey games are funny to me and interesting to listen to - its a nice break fro mthe consistant play-by-play shit - even tho sega's sports games are better than ea's i still dont mind playin nhl 2002 from time to time but aside from sports they make some other good games i enjoy
liquid_sky #4 Posted October 8, 2003 im in too, i dont own or play any EA games, and thier hockey franchise has went in the toilet faster than a taco bell chalupa..
Nintendo Penguin #5 Posted October 8, 2003 What pissed me off is the NASCAR Thunder series. It went down the toilet when they signed an exclusive deal with NASCAR... now there is no competition. Not to mention that they did not even make it for the GameCube, but they did make it for Playstation 1! That really pisses me off! I am seriously considerng writing a letter to NASCAR and EA and anyone else who will listen. Does anyone have any experience on witting a letter of complaint or starting a petition? liquid_sky #6 Posted October 8, 2003 they didnt make it for the gamecube for business reasons, i doubt the ps1 version sold well though..
Nintendo Penguin #7 Posted October 8, 2003 I get the business reason things.. but here is my problem with that... NASCAR is the #2 sport in the country (in terms of viewers) after NFL. NASCAR had to have sold better than some of the other sports crap they put out there. I doubt Womens Tennis out sold NASCAR. Same goes for the aforemention bad Hockey games (Midways are better), NCAA basketball, Knockout Kings and a plethera of other shity sports titles they produce. I cannot believe NASCAR did not sell well. The number just don't match-up. I mean I know it wouldn't do as well as MAdden, but Womens Tennis!!?!? Clock #8 Posted October 8, 2003 There are many Xbox owners like myself who boycott EA because of their proposed Xbox Live service that thankfully MS wouldn't allow. They wanted to make all theirsports titles Xbox Live which sounds like great news, but they wanted to shut down the servers as soon as the next title comesout (i.e. you can only play for 1 year max then you need to buy the new versio). I really want a Xbox Live football (soccer ) game but not like this.
JerseyDevil #9 Posted October 8, 2003 I'm in. Sega's NFL 2K series is way better than Madden and Sega's hockey series is so much better than EA's. EA has been bragging that their new NHL 2004 is a totally new game, more realistic. I played a demo at TRU and I could not believe how bad it played. It really hurts to say because EA's NHL games on the Genny were awesome but they have really gone in the crapper.
PuddWakkr #10 Posted October 8, 2003 I like alot of EA Games so count me out. SSX is a good one. Ohh so is Medal of Honor. There is no way I'm gonna stop playing Tiger 2004. The Lord of the Rings games are fun too. I sure would hate to pass up on that new James Bond game that looks kick ass. Need for speed and Freedom Fighters are on my to get list. Word is all of EA's sports games starting with *sport*2005 will be playable on XBox live. So I guess me boycotting EA because they didn't make a NASCAR game for the cube is not gonna happen. Nintendo Penguin #11 Posted October 8, 2003 Its more than just NASCAR 2004 that pisses me off... that was just the last draw for me. I liked Medal of Honor and Lord of the Rings too, but I am just generally pissed-off with their sports games. Now that they are whipping the competition (Sega, Midway) the quality of their games is going down. NHL games are a prime example. I have not played Madden '04, but 2 people I know have kept playing '03 in its place. I dunno... for sports titles I honnestly now perfer Midway. NHL Hitz is just way better than EA's NHL games. The NASCAR thing just really pisses me off because they signed a damn exclusivity deal... no competition is a bad thing. I hope it doesn't happen to other sports. That would be a damn shame. I hope this is not the begining of an ugly trend.
NovaXpress #12 Posted October 8, 2003 If you don't like a game, you don't buy it. That's not a boycott, that's just making a consumer decision. I didn't buy NHL 2004. That's because I didn't want it, it wasn't a boycott. boycott n : a group's refusal to have commercial dealings with some organization in protest against its policies v : refuse to sponsor; refuse to do business with [ant: patronize, patronize] To boycott is to gather people together in order to sue their economic power against the company IN ORDER TO EFFECT A CHANGE IN THE COMPANY'S POLICY. So what policy is being boycotted here? You think the games are declining in quality? I'm sure there is no corporate policy that says the games are to get worse every year, so what do you wasnt o change. Make 'em better! I'm sure no game designer or company has ever thought of that one. XBox owners have their own issues due to the live service. Those who want online play can't go with EA at this time. Again, that's not a boycott but a consumer decision. As to why MS and EA couldn't get together: both sides throw around accusations to make the other company look greedy. Both companies are greedy so who knows? The NASCAR complaint is ridiculous. EA decided that the GameCube sales weren't worthwhile. That's their right as a business. Maybe NASCAR should be forced to license games for the 2600 while they're at it. And since its so popular, why is NASCAR allowed to sign exclusive deals with certain networks. Shouldn't everyone have the right to broadcast their sport? of course not, and no one has a RIGHT to play a videogame on their chosen system either. You don't like EA's games these days. That's cool, I don't either. But don't think it's some kind of movement.
chrisbid #13 Posted October 8, 2003 i do, i havent bought a new EA game since the genesis days. buying used games do not help the sales numbers or bottom line of a company, so buy used EA games away.
Godzilla #14 Posted October 8, 2003 How the mighty have fallen. Whatever happened to EA always striving for creativity and promoting its 'software artists' EA isn't even a shadow or a shell of their former self, they are an unholy abomination of their former selves, like the result of another person eating the person that was EA alive via ritualistic cannibal torture. /me pines for the days of racing destruction set & mail order monsters. http://c64.mobygames.com/game/covers/gameC...22/gameId,9462/ http://www.mobygames.com/game/covers/gameC...2/gameId,10399/
liveinabin #15 Posted October 8, 2003 Yeah. I remember when EA games were original and fun. Zany Golf, F-18 Interceptor to name but two. I don't buy the rubbish they put out these days. It's just lowest common denominator stuff.
Ze_ro #16 Posted October 8, 2003 If anyone out there likes hockey and is considering buying NHL 2004, please look into getting ESPN NHL Hockey instead... Sadly, I am a big hockey fan, yet I only have a Gamecube, so EA is my only option for new hockey games ... This must be one of Dante's punishments in hell or something... Oh well, at least I can still get NHL 2K3, even if I have to make the trades myself. --Zero

Ze_ro #18 Posted October 9, 2003 Actually, I very much dislike the Coyotes. It really bugs me that they moved to the desert, to a town that doesn't appreciate them half as much as Winnipeg did. Nowadays, I'd have to say that the Sabres are my favorite team. I also root for the Canucks and the Senators... and I maybe even Colorado this year (I never liked them before, but with Selanne and Kariya, I can't hate them anymore). --Zero
Paralistalon #19 Posted October 9, 2003 I don't like the sports games of today so I'll continue to boycott their products.
