Inky #3 Posted October 8, 2003 did anybody here pick up an ngage? HO Gauge for me, although O27 is very popular around these parts.
tantone56 #4 Posted October 8, 2003 I think what you said about nokia's stock plummiting is true. Nobody is going to spend $300.00 on that thing and it looks so stupid if you ever had to use it as a phone, the screen looks like it would easily get scratched. I would just buy a good cellphone and a gameboy sp to save alot of money. Heres another thing because it has a phone attached parents of young children wont let them get it so that rules out marketing for the 12 and under range. Snider-man #5 Posted October 8, 2003 I can already HEAR the nokia stock falling!Falling? No. But spiking due to overwhelming demand? Not hardly. Upon release of the Ngage, Nokia's stock trmbled within a point and a half, but nothing more. Here ya go: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=NOK&t=5d

rasty #8 Posted October 8, 2003 http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~extralife/archive.php?date=2003-10-07 Anyway, I don't think the N-Gage is the only portable system that's getting ports of games from the past (that's actually a good thing IMO!) SteveW #9 Posted October 8, 2003 My best friend has been looking at an Ngage lately. If he buys one, there's a pretty good chance he'll give it to me, like he's done with all his other devices that he gets bored with. Over the years, i've gotten a Lynx, an Atari Portfolio, an Apple Quadra 700, an Atari 1200XL, and an Apple eMate 300. He's just that kind of guy. Once he moves on to something else, he gives me his hand-me-downs free of charge. Great guy!
icbrkr #10 Posted October 8, 2003 did anybody here pick up an ngage? HO Gauge for me, although O27 is very popular around these parts. I agree. N Gage is too tough for me with little patience to work on it. My HO will be built in the garage soon Oh.. were we talking about video games?
PuddWakkr #11 Posted October 9, 2003 I've got an LGB train set..... definetly not portable
tantone56 #12 Posted October 9, 2003 I think when Nokia fails in there video gaming ventures they will be getting what they deserve. Theres just something about Nokia that strikes me as evil I cant put my finger on it.
Cupcakus #13 Posted October 9, 2003 The whole selling point for the NGage is multiplayer... which ends up being a waste, because as of yet you can't play others over GSM, and bluetooth is a waste of time. $300 is not that extraordinary for a hyped up phone... That's what my sidekick cost. The GBA goes wireless soon... so I'm not sure what reason if any there really is to spend money on an NGage and it's software.... But as we all know.. If Yugi says we should buy it... it will sell like no tomorrow.
Ze_ro #14 Posted October 9, 2003 So, can we hear some comments from people who actually BOUGHT one, Rather than just people who have heard second hand information? No offense, but if you haven't actually played it, then your opinion of it's quality is completely meaningless. I'm not saying the system is great... I'm just saying don't knock it 'till you've tried it. And no, I haven't tried it either. --Zero
SteveW #15 Posted October 9, 2003 I've actually played it. I played Pandemonium. It looked like some kind of platform game, but I got stuck in some low point and couldn't jump high enough to get out. I was impressed by it's graphics capabilities, though. Pandemonium was all textured polygons, except for a few objects on the course. Graphically, it blows the GBA out of the water. But me and my friend couldn't get the two Ngages in the demo stand to link up. There were just too many buttons on the thing, and it's user interface sucked. If I read the instructions, it probably would have been clearer, but then i'm a real man who never reads instruction manuals, so that was out of the question. If I can't figure it out without the instructions, then it's not worth playing.
liquid_sky #16 Posted October 9, 2003 the graphics are nice but the framerate stutters and is inconsistint.. thats the problem. a bit longer development time and a better layout for game cards.. plus maybe 100 dollars cheaper and they would have a better (not exponentionally substancial, but decent) sell rate
liveinabin #17 Posted October 9, 2003 I don't see Japan losing it's gaming market to Finland any time soon:)
Ze_ro #18 Posted October 9, 2003 Boy, the GameFAQs N-Gage Message Board sure isn't a very optimistic crowd. Pretty sad that people have nothing better to do than to go into a forum and bash something they've likely never played. I guess it's too much to hope that video game consumers would have an open mind these days. --Zero
Snider-man #19 Posted October 9, 2003 I guess it's too much to hope that video game consumers would have an open mind these days. You're referring to the "Nintendo/Xbox/PS2 sucks/rocks" fanbase, right? Good God, are you the optimistic one. I haven't seen videogame consumers NOT trash a new system. EVER. Hell, even the Colecovision/Intellivision/Vectrex had their nay-sayers in the day. To expect otherwise nowadays is delightfully naive. And if you're waiting ofr someone who bought it to chime in, you'll be waiting forever. I've visited 4 Gamestops in my area yesterday (just shopping) and asked each store how many they sold since release day. Totalling all four stores? Less than 12 in an area covering Cleveland to Columbus. Bad, bad, bad.
tantone56 #20 Posted October 9, 2003 You know i was bashing the system but spider man brings up a good point when he said what system wasnt bashed by people when it came out...good call spider man
SteveW #21 Posted October 9, 2003 How do you think it would sell if Nokia stripped out all the extra features like the phone and mp3 playing ability and just make an Ngage compatible portable game console? I don't like to use phones, so I don't want a cell phone. I already have an iPod, so I don't need a crappier mp3 player. Strip it down to a polygon pushing portable game system for less than $150 and i'd buy one. I think it would do well. Just sell two models, the game console and the phone/game console. liveinabin #22 Posted October 9, 2003 I'd like to note that I've only been bashing it after actually playing on one. It's not hype, ladies and gentlemen, they really are shit.

rasty #24 Posted October 9, 2003 I'd like to note that I've only been bashing it after actually playing on one. It's not hype, ladies and gentlemen, they really are shit. Clock #25 Posted October 9, 2003 It's surprised me how good it is at gaming - just check out some of these demos - still wouldn't buy one for all the reasons stated already. http://www.n-gage.com/R1/en/games/games_cl...supermonkeyball
