RCmodeler #1 Posted October 12, 2003 Let me start by saying I was not impressed by Tekken Tag Tournament. It was okay, but I had far more fun with the old primitive Soul Edge game. That said, should I pick up Tekken 4? Is it better?
AtariDude #2 Posted October 12, 2003 I have Tekken 4. I do like the game and I have solved the game with all the fighters. Each one has a different ending and all together they make for a somewhat complete story although the three main characters have alternate endings depending on whom beats whom. MegaManFan #3 Posted October 12, 2003 Aren't there three or four versions of Tekken 4? Which one is the right one to get? Tag Team Tournament? Evolution? Greatest Hits?
CPUWIZ #4 Posted October 12, 2003 Aren't there three or four versions of Tekken 4? Which one is the right one to get? Tag Team Tournament? Evolution? Greatest Hits? Tekken Tag is Tekken 3.5 (I kid you not), there is a real Tekken 4.
ubersaurus #5 Posted October 12, 2003 Tekken 4 was a piece of crap compared to Tekken Tag. Tag is, if you ask me, the best Tekken game, and if you are getting one, get it. 4 has prettier graphics, but playwise its far inferior to tag.
Kyo #6 Posted October 12, 2003 Tekken 4 is all around, a pretty good game. It much more ballanced than Tekken Tag. MegaManFan: Evolution? that's Vitrua Fighter 4. I dont believe that Tekken 4 was released under the greatest hits either. Both VF 4, and VF 4:Evolution were re-released under the Greatest Hits label, if that's what you meant to say. Overall, dont bother with Tekken Tag.it's not very ballanced at all. most things do way too much damage. ubersaurus: who do you play in tekken?

But Tekken 4 is way more unbalanced then Tag. Tag's Ogre's could at least be beat. 4 has what, Jin and no one else matters. Competitively, Tag is still going strong, but Tekken 4 has been almost dead since a few months after its release. That should be a sign of which game is better, just right there. RCmodeler #9 Posted October 13, 2003 I got Virtua Fighter: Evolution for $20. I've heard people say it's "the best" so now I'll find out. Thanks!

Tekken 4's competition isnt dead. we've had a tourney not too long ago. how's 4 unballanced? in tag, there's 100% combos to where you cant get out of it. Point: Jin, Orge, Paul, King,Heihachi. Point: all most all top players use orge,or king. king's combo throw can be escaped about 80% of the time. you need to know the exact timing and know how to escape it. Counter-Point: everything is beatible. you just need to know how to counteract it. Tekken 4: point: damage toned down on overpowered attacks. King's combo throw is now easier to escape. some characters' just frames are easy to pull off(Jin,Steve,Paul) counter-point: some are very hard to pull off, and take exact timing and skill.(Just Frame) 4 does have infinates, but you need to pull off a gameplay bug in order to do it.(mirror glitch, in the parking area stage)
Ze_ro #11 Posted October 13, 2003 Why not just rent the game and decide for yourself? --Zero
RCmodeler #12 Posted October 13, 2003 And waste $4? Nah.
liveinabin #13 Posted October 13, 2003 If you liked the (far from primitive) Soul Edge, why not just cut the Tekkens altogether and get Soul calibur II?
Ze_ro #14 Posted October 13, 2003 And waste $4? Nah. If you buy it and don't like it, you'll have wasted a lot more than that. --Zero

I could have a tourney for Mark of the Wolves, but that doesn't make the game any less dead. Infinites and 100% combos don't ruin a game. Gameplay does, and Tekken 4's wasn't very good. The 3d system needs work, to put it mildly, before its anything to the calibre of Tag's. And like I already said, Tag is generally looked upon as the better game between that and 4. Hell, in Michigan alone Tekken 4 is dead in the water, but Tag is still goin strong. Tag is older then 4, and its got a larger playerbase. And thats just in Michigan-from my understanding, its the same in many regions. Now having a larger top tier base on Tag doesn't make it worse-far better to have numerous characters that can fight each other, then just one like in 4(jin). Sides, if you're gonna go with a 3d fighter- VF4 Evolution is a real mans game.
Kyo #16 Posted October 14, 2003 saying that wasnt a point. i'm just saying that we still do play it here. tekken tag as a broken gameplay system.there's way more crap that you can pull off to easily kill someone in tag than you can in 4.
RCmodeler #17 Posted October 14, 2003 And waste $4? Nah. If you buy it and don't like it, you'll have wasted a lot more than that. Now I can sell it on ebay for almost full price. Example: I bought Kingdom Hearts for $50... sold it for $49.
ROBOTRON #18 Posted October 14, 2003 Didn't like T4. They took out my Jack robots and put in that stupid "Mookajin" robot. Ruined the game for me. I'll stick to TTT.
RCmodeler #19 Posted October 14, 2003 I just played Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution for the first time. It seems like a good fighter. I just wish there was more to the game, because fighting person after person gets to be a little boring. A Campaign mode like Soul Edge has would be nice. Or maybe a little more cleavage. King Atari #20 Posted October 14, 2003 I think you made the right choice. Believe me, I love Tekken, but I prefer Virtua Fighter. Maybe because you needed a little strategy. Don't know how it is with VF4 (though I'm buying it right after Max Payne for PS2).
