Avoiding charges on international money orders - help!

Recommended Posts

I have a question for all you savvy buyers and sellers. Last time I sold to a seller in Canada I got the money order, but then my bank charged me $20 to process it because the money order was not from a U.S. bank. How do I avoid this happening in the future? I have a buyer from Finland now and I don't want the same thing to happen. Can he use Bidpay or is there a money order service easy for foreign buyers to use and easy for me to cash here in the U.S.

Thank you!

RG

i've never used bidpay but i hear it's seller friendly (buyer pays the fees) and works very well! i would think he should be able to use it but don't know for sure...

Good luck!

I've used Bidpay as a buyer & seller, several times now trouble free. Usually when I receive payment thru it, I ship upon email confirmation, as I know it's on it's way. But as I've read others mention before, sometimes bidders may not have a credit card to use Bidpay. I state in my payment terms that I accept Paypal & Bidpay only. I sometimes make exceptions for this thou. You can cash Canadian International Postal money orders in USD at your own post office. So if you get any bidders from Canada, IPMO in USD are fine. :) From other countries thou, it's hard to say, it could be a problem with your bank, that wants to charge you, some banks are like that, and some international banks are like that too I've noticed some auctions in Australia where the sellers state the fees assoicated with accepting checks, either added fees to the total cost of the item, or not accepted at all. I never deal in international MO besides for Canada, so I don't know any more than that.

If it is an international postal money order in US funds(the pink one). Then just take it to the post and they will cash it for free.
