Redcurrie #1 Posted October 12, 2003 Okay, I got Dragon's Lair for the SNES and it is a totally diferent game than I expected. I THOUGHT I remembered a game from the arcades that was from the main character's (Dirk) perspective where you walked through rooms, found stuff, etc. but what I got was a Mario-style scroller. Am I thinking of a different arcade game or is this just a very unfaithful translation? PS I would be happy to sell or trade it.....
Vic George 2K3 #2 Posted October 12, 2003 It's a Dragon's Lair game in name and characters only, but I hear you, it's certainly NOT Dragon's Lair. I happened to have owned this game, too.
Avid Fan #3 Posted October 12, 2003 If you want the real Dragons Lair, get the DVD, a 3DO, or an old 486 and find the cd-rom version
AtariDude #4 Posted October 12, 2003 The original Dragon's Lair was a laser disk game. A cartridge can not faithfully reproduce that experience given the huge size of the images used for the game. You can obtain Dragon's Lair plus several other laser disk style games from the following site: http://www.digitalleisure.com/ Lead on adventurer, your quest awaits
Nintendo Penguin #5 Posted October 13, 2003 I have that SNES game as well. It is not the Dragon's Lair most people know and love. Neither is the Game Boy Color version. If you like the Arcade original, you will probably like Dragon's Lair 3D, it is available for all modern consoles. I thought this game was excellent! NE146 #6 Posted October 13, 2003 I thought the GBC version was good fun. IMHO it's a good cheap way to play the original Dragons Lair on a popular handheld. Sure there are a couple of differences (like moves, missing scenes, etc.) but the soul is there, and it's portable! Otherwise if you want the actual arcade version, you can't get closer to the arcade than playing via Daphne especially on the xbox. There are 2 versions of the video out there, one ripped from the DVD, the other from the Laserdisc. You really can't go wrong with either. The emulation is spot on as well. And it's great playing it on a big screen tv. 'Course, getting this going requires a modded xbox, and then knowing how to find images and make it work. But to me it was worth it. Nintendo Penguin #8 Posted October 13, 2003 I have nothing against the GBC version. I am just a big fan of the original and the newest game. DAPHNE!!!!! Oh, yes!
RCmodeler #9 Posted October 14, 2003 My favorite home version is the 16-bit Commodore Amiga version. It uses actual digitzed video spanning 6 floppy disks. The flaw with the DVDs is that they don't play smoothly. There are annoying pauses every time you make a choice. Which is why I prefer the Amiga version: It flows smoothly. MichaelJMcKernan #10 Posted October 14, 2003 How is the Sega Cd version? I just got it in a lot with 8 other CD games for 10 bucks, but now I'm scared?
SS #11 Posted October 14, 2003 How is the Sega Cd version?I just got it in a lot with 8 other CD games for 10 bucks, but now I'm scared? Like all SegaCD games, it plays OK but looks as if you're viewing it through a fishbowl.
MichaelJMcKernan #12 Posted October 14, 2003 Is it similiar to the SNES port, or is it more faithful to the arcade? Will I crack the CD after playing it once to save the world from the utter stupidity of the game like I did with SuperNES Space Ace?

lhfreak #15 Posted October 15, 2003 I bought the ADAM version back in the day. Even though it wasnt the arcade version, I thought it still ruled! Had some unique things going on there......Then later I got the C64 version, with Escape from Singes Castle on the other side of the disk. And I still have that one to this day. Very fun....... Redcurrie #16 Posted October 15, 2003 I just remember it being so unique at that time, a game seen from the character's POV. It's common now but back then, it was really special. Geez, I really sound old when I say that. Damn these kids today and the things that they take for granted (waving fist)!
Bryan #17 Posted October 15, 2003 Here's a program that actually emulates the arcade game and laserdisc player, but you need all the MPEG files. -Bry http://www.daphne-emu.com/
