SpendTooMuchOnAtari #1 Posted October 15, 2003 Why do games have a release date and then always get bumped around. I preordered SSX 3 for the PS2 near the end of September and the guy wrote on my slip and told me that it would be in on October 15th. I just called and now it is the 21st or 23rd or something. Pisses me off! I also preordered Tony Hawk but who knows when that will actually come out. Anyway, my question....why do they do this
PuddWakkr #2 Posted October 15, 2003 To make sure the product that you spent your hard earned money on is the best it can be. Would you rather play a shitty game on Oct. 15 or a good one in December. I would be more angry getting a piece of crap myself, but that's just me. Release dates are the publishers best guess at what time it will be available. When you hear the game your waiting for has "gone gold" then you can get ready to play it.
Mr.FoodMonster #3 Posted October 15, 2003 you cant really make any changes to the game itself in 2 weeks, it takes atleast that long to print off all the copies. i think its the store, some places dont get the shipments of videogames on time, but when it comes to movies, even though videogames are a bigger industry, they have no problem there. i hate these people's ethics

Yeah, I don't think that they made any changes to the game. You really think they were still making the game at the end of September when the release date was 10-15? I don't think so. Actually, that is ridiculous. They have to package the game, box them up, get them shipped off and so on.... Not a chance!
heavy-sixer #5 Posted October 15, 2003 I hate when they push back dates as well. What they should do is over estimate the release date and then when everything is set they should announce that the release date has moved up (not back!). I would find that a pleasant change of pace. skeletor #6 Posted October 15, 2003 The stores have no control over release dates. They go by the date that was given to them by the game manufacturer. And yes they still could've been making/finishing the game up towards the end of September or they could've found some bugs and are in the process of eliminating them. Also just because the date was changed to next week does'nt mean they won't decide to delay it yet again. For instance State of Emergancy for the Xbox was originally scheduled for a February release, but was pushed back to March then pushed back again and finally released in May. This was nothing more than a PS2 port with a few extras.
chrisbid #7 Posted October 15, 2003 unless you get some sort of bonus promotional item, why would anyone preorder an optical based game. there hasnt been a serious shortage of a major title since Zelda OOT on the N64.

Ze_ro #9 Posted October 16, 2003 you cant really make any changes to the game itself in 2 weeks, it takes atleast that long to print off all the copies. Obviously, the delays happen before they try to ship or mass produce. Development happened to take 2 weeks longer than expected, it happens all the time. i think its the store, some places dont get the shipments of videogames on time, but when it comes to movies, even though videogames are a bigger industry, they have no problem there. i hate these people's ethics Settle down, the game just took longer to finish than they expected, that is all. The creators guessed at a ship date, and happened to underestimate. Have you met every single one of your deadlines? --Zero
