What is a good price to pay for....

Recommended Posts

A Jaguar - :? don't know :?

A Vectrex - $85

A NES - $10 to $20

A 7800 - in the $20s

A lynx - :? don't know :?

An N64 - HA! Stores can't give them away right now! Less than $10

A Dreamcast - $10 to $20

Well, that's what I'd pay for them anyway.

Vectrex: $40

I think that you're shooting way low on this one.

N64: $25

And high on this one. My friend Joe has made a pyramid of twenty-eight N64 units at his store because he's gotten so many in and nobody is buying them.

You know. Last night I was gonna post a thread exactly like this but was afraid with my recent other threads asking about prices, you'd all kill me.

I'll add to the list.

How much would you spend on a Virtual Boy?

Well, for my Virtual Boy, with a nice case from Blockbuster, and 5 games, I paid a total of 40 bucks. That was in like 1996, too. Or somewhere close to that time period.

Assuming the system is in good (or better) condition, you get all the cords, one controller, no games, boxes, or manuals, here's my estimates and comments:

A Jaguar - $40-50 (These seem rare, but they're actually pretty easy to find.)

A Vectrex - $75 (I got an amazing deal on my Vectrex when I bought it for $40, but it's easily worth more than that... getting these over eBay can be expensive since shipping will cost a fortune. )

A NES - $5 (These things are so common that there's really no reason to pay more than $5 for one in my opinion. The thrift stores around here are chock full of these things. I personally got mine for $2. You might be better off getting a cleaner one for a bit more money though.)

A 7800 - $15-20 (I don't have a lot of experience with this system, so this is just a guess.)

A lynx - $30-40 (I got mine off eBay for about $40, you might be able to find one cheaper though... the prices seem to fluctuate. If you're looking for one, I'd recommend getting the later model called the "Lynx II" if possible.)

An N64 - $30 (All the rental stores around here are practically giving them away. You might even be able to get one cheaper than $30, but there's absolutely no reason to pay any more than that.)

A Dreamcast - $40 (These were actually REALLY cheap for a while, and finding one for $25 or so was pretty easy... but they seem to have been in a bit more demand lately.)

Virtual Boy - $40 (My friend actually got one for $10 because the guy thought it was broken... turned out that it was just a dirty cartridge port. Man, was that ever a great deal! $40 seems like a fair price to me though. Make absolutely sure that you get the stand with it, and the foam mold that fits around your eyes... without these pieces, the machine is essentially worthless. I see ones on eBay without these pieces, and I wouldn't even pay $5 for one of them.)

Van, I'm sorta curious why you keep asking the same question over and over, each with a different console. Are there no game stores in your area? Are you not a fan of Google searching? Do you not find eBay prices to be accurate? Have you not picked up a copy of the Video Game Bible? I'm not trying to rag on you. I'm just curious.

Yes to all of them. The only stores in my area sell jaguars for $400 and NES's for $50. I honestly have never heard of the video game bible and I am not that good at googleing. As for Ebay, I have seen a SNES for $.01 to $200, so I really dont know which one to believe.

I am trying to find a good classic system in my price range and so I list the ones I am most interested in. I asked about the NES, then I opened my eyes to other systems, and for the reasons above, I turn to AAers to help me out. Thanks.

No problem Van, I was just wondering. If you think you might ask similarly related questions you can always consolidate, but you did consolidate a lot of consoles into this post so I'll give you props for that. :)

That's interesting since I've been looking forever to get one of those and can't seem to find any for less than $50 around here. You'd think that if they're that abundant they wouldn't go for a silly amount of cash like $50?

Also add a 3do to the list.

Depends on which model... the older tray-loading ones are the better ones, and they're built like tanks. I'd say they're worth about $50. The other models I'd say only about $40, even though they're probably harder to find.

Where are you guys finding a 7800 for $20? The oonly place I know that has them sells them for $69.99 reconditioned with 1 game, allhookups and controllers.

Everytime I've looked on Ebay they go for more then that too. After Xmas I'm looking to get one so if anybody knows where to get one that cheap please let me know.

Maybe you’re right, Joe. I may have been thinking of what prices were like a few years ago. 7800s seem to have become much more popular as of late and prices may well have have gone up to reflect this.

Also, can I add a NEO GEO to the list?

Yes. I'd love to have one of these. But I've mainly seen them go for a LOT of money. The carts themselves are plenty as well.

And you don't see much on eBay. Most of the results you turn up are for NGPC.

$25 for a Jaguar seems about right to me. ;)

Vectrex.. I'd love one. But not that much.

Not into the 7800 yet.

$25 sounds right for the N64, but GS has them or at least had them for $20. Most of the games used are more than that there. The system may be worthless, but the games ain't cheap.

I got my Dreamcast for $30. That was a good price.

Haven't gotten into portables yet to know what a Lynx is worth.

And it'll be a long time before I go after the 3DO.

A lot. Prices seem to vary, and you should be aware of the differences between the home system and the MVS arcade system before you get involved with this system (Check a FAQ for the gory details). These machines can easily go for anywhere between $200 and $300... Many of the games go for similarly enormous prices, so if you're not willing to spend around $150 on a single game, then back away (There are some cheap games to be had, but the good ones are not for us poor people).

There's also a NeoGeo CD, which is a completely seperate thing... I've seen these go for as much as normal NeoGeo's, but they're usually cheaper. Games on on CD, which means they're a LOT cheaper, but the load times are pretty rough, and not all games were ported to CD (although there are actually games that were ONLY available on CD).

I really want to get a NeoGeo one of these days, but it's very much out of my price range at the moment :(

It all depends on your area... 3DO's show up here in Winnipeg from time to time, but you'll only see them around maybe once every month or two. The situation may be different in Albuquerque. It might take you some time to track one down locally, while eBay will have tons of them right now.
