What if FF7 was made for the Nintendo 64?

Recommended Posts

Lets also not forget that the Playstation was almost a joint project between nintendo and sony.

Not what I consider an accurate source.

While it IS known that Sony's Playstation has its roots in the aborted SNESCD, it's not ACTUALLY known how far along it was, why it was killed, or how like the SNESCD the PlayStation truly is.

Though it is also known that Nintendo left Sony for Philips, and credible rumor is that they pulled out LITERALLY the day the SNESCD was to be unveiled to the public, with working prototypes and some software really late in development(and again, it's known as fact that Seiken Densetsu 2, AKA Seret of Mana, was to be an SNESCD game before it was killed, leaving Square in the unenviable position of cramming 650 megabytes of game into a 2 megabyte box).

What a shock, I fully expected everybody to be bashing me for what I said. What a mature audience. Thanks guys.

Now on the other hand, I've argued for a long time that FF7 itself, minus all of the cut scenes, could easily be done small enough to be on a GBA cart.

I wonder why Square hasn't remade any of these games on the GBA... Even an FF6 remake on the GBA would probably sell millions, and they wouldn't even have to do much work on it.

Damn streight. I would love to see Final Fantasy games on GBA, especially the excelent FF2 (or whatever it's japanese counterpart is, 4?)

I don't know if it's going to happen though. Square's still childishly PO'd at Nintendo about the mid 90's things, and refuse to make much of anything for them. Though Tactics Advance gives me hope for some Final Fantasy Translations, haven't picked it up myself, it stays sold out.

Another reason Square hasn't released FF games for Nintendo systems is, they jumped on board the Wonder Swan Color boat, and it sank. Though they made 3 or four of the original Final Fantasy games translated for Wonder Swan Color. Poor doomed little system. Their still probably suffering from that. Though I do hope ports are in the works for GBA.

Ummm, as I understand things it was NINTENDO who was pissed, not Square. They were apparently willing to let bygones be bygones, and were asking for GBA dev kits, but the (now-former) president refused to let them have a dev kit or license, because HE was holding a grudge(Sure we raped you bastards anally every chance, but that's not the point! You left us! We don't need you anyways! Go jump in a lake!).

That's why Square signed on for GBA work immediately after Yamauchi resigned. The president wasn't blocking them any more.

1 and 2 have already been ported to the PS1(with a few enhancements, mainly involving screen resolution) as FFOrigins.

The first 4 games were ported to WSC, according to GameFAQs.

That's 1, 2j, 3j, and 4j/2US.

I'm SURE they'll be ported to GBA at some point. They'd be fools not to.

yuck. i never liked the ff games, period

I've always felt they should be released on VHS and not bother me with their 'hitting a' to continue through the fmvs. you call that gameplay? gah. its like those old 'choose your own adventure' books. only more linear!

give me chrono cross, panzer saga, skies of arcadia, lunar, cosmic fantasy etc. any day.

I liked some of the FFs.

The first 2 NES/FamiCom ones had a lot more gameplay, largely due to the lack of an auto-retarget(a feature which doesn't make a lot of sense if you think about what should be going on in a fight).

The later games relied more on stat-tweaking for their "gameplay". Usually through weapons and armor, though a few games have pretty minimal equip, so the stats are tweaked elsewhere(FF7 and 8).
