N-Gage Mockery Site

Recommended Posts

http://www.sidetalkin.com/

This was written up in a CNN Money article today so it should be drawing much traffic. It shows how ridiculous people look talking into an N-Gage and then drifts off into the expected zaniness. I particularly liked the wackjob talking into a Neo-Geo.

The CNN article says 400,000 units have been sold to stores by Nokia, but no one's talking about the number purchased by consumers.

I guess they are selling some of them, because I heard they sold over 400,000 in the first two weeks it was on sale. Somebody is buying these things?????

Nokia sold 400,000 to retail stores. Figures have'nt been released yet as to how many the consumers actually bought.

There has already been a 100 price cut on them at EB. I talked to the manager and he says the Fairfax store has only sold 5 since launch.

Wonder if the price break will make a dent? Compared to the other gaming/phone options, seems silly to spend that much.

Thanks for the correction, I know I heard that statistic somewhere.

I have always liked Ericsson (and later SonyEricsson) much better than Nokia anyway. But I will save my final judgement on the N-Gage.

But the Zodiac....I can tell you now...it looks quite impressive and very cool! :) Maybe, but just maybe, we will finaly have a system that could compete with the greatest handheld console ever - The Atari Lynx!! :D

Hmmm...N-Gage...Zodiac...N-gage...Zodiac... ZODIAC! Seriously, why would anyone buy an N-Gage?
ecause they collect failed gaming machines and an N-Gage would look nice next to their 3D0, Virtual Boy, and 32x?

I'm actually really looking forward to the Zodiac... that thing is going to be killer. It totally has the potential to be the biggest sleeper hit in gaming history. The only real problem is that there aren't a lot of commercial games announced for it (I was disappointed to find that Tony Hawk 4 was the same as the GBA version).

Anyone who ever said "Boy, I'd love to get a GP32, but I don't want to pay for shipping"... then this system is made for you!

Thanks for the link. There were a lot of funny pictures and it was nice to see all the different systems that have been created over the years. I wonder if any of the pictures with Atari items in them are AtariAge members. Fess up you guys :D

Looks like quite a few Atari items were there.

Well, the Zodiac is made by a company called Tapwave, and is featured quite prominently on their site.

Zodiac Gamer also looks to be a nice fan-based site. Perhaps the Zodiac version of AtariAge.

it's a glorified PalmOS machine!!!! too bad. I'm a PocketPC person myself. the PalmOS was too little too late when it came down to the cruch. only now are they really getting to the point where the multimedia aspect of moble computing is becoming the most seirous part of the OS. maybe in a few years i might again consider PalmOS as a viable system. what a shame.

Zodiac needs integrated WAN, then I could actually use it for this project I'm doing...right now it looks like its going to be Tungsten W.

Um, anyone notice that the site says they're shipping now?

even with WAN what could you possibly do with that on the PalmOS? the PalmOS doesn't currently support a link between TCP/IP via 802.11b to their browser, only for uplink to sync on a network based computer. unless you tapped directly into the WAN input/output and ran your program directly linked to the NIC. but it would still be easier to do that on PocketPC anyways. Additionally games are more graphicly sound, and more engaging on the PocketPC. not to mention less mindless and shallow. way too many little programs out there for the PalmOS.

I highly doubt Nokia has sold 400,000 N-Gages. From what I can tell, it's a dismal failure and will probably be one of the shortest-lived game consoles ever. Here's an interesting story on how the N-Gage Has Been Cracked, allowing the N-Gage games to be played on similar devices. Such as phones that don't require you to hold them up to your ear sideways to talk. :)

*scratches head*

Given it was the second modern PDA OS(Apple Newton anyone?), and the first successful one, I fail to see how it can be too late for anything.
