Best looking system?

Recommended Posts

I really like the look of a model 1 Genesis w/ model 1 Sega CD setup.

Atari 2600 - I just dig wood grain..makes me wanna go out and buy some woodgrain contact paper to put on one of my TVs.

NES - Just looks really swanky

Atari 2600jr/5200/7800 ( I wish it didnt have a rainbow on it) You know what they say about rainbows... :ponder:

Female Aphrodisiac that leads to romance and breakfast-in-bed? That's what rainbows do for me. (wink)

Of course, looks have no effect on the system's power, and the jury is still out on how much effect it has on the consumer...

Well let's look at the most popular system of each era:

Atari 2600 - ugly

Commodore=64 - tan & brown??? ugly

NES - ugly

S-NES - ehhh, it's okay, but nowhere as sexy as Genesis

PlayStation 1 - ugly

PS2 - it's a black brick! ugly

It seems that the ugliest systems are the winners?!?!? Odd.

The most beautiful systems were:

Commodore=128 (lovely white color)

Commodore=Amiga 500 (smooth lines)

Atari 7800

Atari Jaguar

NeXT - sexy titanium!

Apple I-Mac (see-though gray)

Nintendo 64 (re-designed see-through gray)

Nintendo GameCube (black or platinum)

I actually like the look of the original Odyssey system...

The original 1972 Odyssey is a sculptured work of art.

This thread got me thinking .. Does the Atari VCS 2600 have more switches than any other console? (save the 7800).

Funny: Minicomputers at the time were fronted with a rack of switches .. and the 6 switch Atari VCS resembles this.

I thought that the Nintendo 64 looked horrid. I could see how they were trying to continue the look and feel of the Famicom and Super Famicom in Japan (Power and reset buttons opposite eachother, cartridge bay towards the rear) which is something I think a lot of Americans didn't pick up on... but the whole thing looked like a Corvette that got rear ended and was all smashed in the back. It just looked gay. And when I say gay I mean it seriously looked....gay. The Sega Saturn looked much nicer at the time I think... even tho it was pretty big and somehow reminded me totally of the 5200. (Big black beast with aweful controllers)

The SMS is sexier than the NES 1.

The Genesis 2 is sexier than the SNES 1. But the SNES 2 is teh sexay when it comes to redesigns and is slightly more sexy than the Genesis 3.

The N64 was sexier than the PSX, but the Saturn AND the DC were sexier than the N64.

The GCN is the most attractive of the current consoles. Xbox is plain. PS2 has an established look to it. The grating vent look of all PS2 products.

What will the next generation of consoles look line? Who will be teh uber sexay? :D

If you took away the printer, the Coleco ADAM was a pretty spiffy looking system.

That's a pretty slick little system there. I'd love one, but the $300 (or is it $400) price tag is out of my range

I'd easilly pay twice that amount if he could make it a 7800 and make a nice steel case for it.

I always loved the Vader model 2600, though I'm probably just partial because it's my first system.

Maybe it's just me, but the SMS always looked like it could double as an acquarium lid.

I like the 7800 best... it's sleek like the 5200, but not ridiculously, excessively huge.

When I found one I thought that the 2600 Jr was the coolest little console

I'd ever seen. I also like the 5200 & 7800 the 5200. All three look pretty

slick next to each other on a shelf.

Of the modern stuff I quite like the PS2. All the accessories have a nice

uniform design and I always like black on my electronics. It also is narrow

enough to fit nicely into the entertainment shelf with the VCR and stereo.

I just wanna say for the record that the Super Famicom is a damn fine looking system.

snes.jpg

It looks a ton better than the US SNES. It makes me wonder what the design team was thinking. Is there any REALLY reason to change console designs for other countries? At least they updated the SNES with the Super Famicom-esque SNES 2.

snes_sns-101.jpg

Which looks pretty good, but the team that the SFamicom and the Famicom cart designs make is damn well nice looking compared to the SNES 2. The US carts just don't go with the design.

cool but nearly useless its the magnavox CD-i

550c.gif

the controller is cool too, sorta like a gen but all parts are done in the same dull gray color, giving it a generic cool look

other top contenders- the x-eye is nice with the big buttons.

the top loader is also a real work of art with the round raised cart slot and multi sloped frint.

The Super FamiCom is cool looking. The Carts look like N64 carts, minus the rounded top.

Sure. Makes regional lockouts a lot simpler. You have one lockout chip, but a diffrent form factor for the carts.

...

That's really all I can think of, except for some japanese engineer exacting vengeance for the vastly nicer looking NES when he was stuck staring at the ugly childern's toy Famicom with it's evil hard-wired gamepads.

If all they have in common is the fact that they're cubes, then I'd say it's just a coincidence. And although I hate to sound like a smart-ass, the Gamecube isn't really even a cube... it's too short. Add a GB Player in there, and it'll make up for the height though.

Yeah. I mentioned that. A Player makes it a perfect square cube. If only it were one piece.

And the cube is available in other colors than purple. Black and Platinum seem pretty popular around here... and Japan has all kinds of goofy colors like "Spice".
Why can't the US have Spice? I LOVE orange! It'd really stand out. All my consoles are black or greyish. And I didn't like the Indigo one. So I took Jet. I'd love it to be spice though.

Hmmm I know I've seen the orange controller floating around.

I never liked the PS2 simply for it's awkwardness when carrying it around (the weight is uneven). I'm always afraid I'm gonna drop the thing.
